The verdict

WHOOP MG comes only with the $359-a-year Life membership, which includes a Wireless PowerPack and a band. The FDA cleared its ECG feature in April 2025 for adults 22 and older, but Blood Pressure Insights has no clearance. In June 2026 the FDA closed its warning letter on that feature, saying it doesn't intend to enforce device requirements for it as modified.

The trade-off

It costs $1,077 over three years, and its Blood Pressure Insights is a beta wellness estimate with no FDA clearance.

About this price

WHOOP's US join page shows Life as "Available at $359/yr", with the MG device, a Wireless PowerPack and a choice of band. WHOOP's launch release lists the same $359 in its USD price table. Only the yearly figure is shown, with no separate hardware price. The price is before tax and shipping, and it isn't a sale price. The join page also says "Get up to $119 off today when you trade up with an eligible wearable." WHOOP's trade up page says the discount depends on the device, model and condition, and applies to the first year only. It isn't deducted here. The one-month free trial is for Peak on a certified pre-owned 5.0 device, and WHOOP says free trials of Life aren't available.

A GOOD FIT FOR

You want an FDA-cleared ECG on a screen-free strap and don't mind paying $359 a year for the membership that includes it.

  • You want an ECG that the FDA has cleared on a screen-free strap, and you accept a $359 yearly fee
  • You want WHOOP's daily Recovery, Sleep and Strain scores plus Peak's Healthspan and health alerts in one membership
  • You'd rather pay yearly than buy hardware up front

THINK TWICE IF

  • You won't pay an ongoing yearly fee, since WHOOP lists no hardware-only price for the MG
  • You're under 22 or have a known arrhythmia other than AFib, since the ECG clearance and WHOOP's warnings leave you out
  • You want the time, notifications or GPS on your wrist, since the strap has no display or built-in GPS
  • You want a cleared blood pressure measurement, since Blood Pressure Insights is a beta wellness estimate
  • You're pregnant or on blood pressure medication, since WHOOP says Blood Pressure Insights isn't intended for you
  • You want to try the MG free first, since WHOOP's free trial covers only Peak on a pre-owned 5.0
What still needs checking
  • MG dimensions, weight and water resistance rating
  • Which bands have the ECG-conductive clasp
  • Whether WHOOP's Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications are FDA-authorized, since the FDA 510(k) search under WHOOP's name lists only the ECG feature
  • Independent accuracy data for the MG's sleep, heart rate and Blood Pressure Insights
  • Error figures for Blood Pressure Insights, and what WHOOP changed to get the FDA close-out
  • Renewal price after year one, shipping cost, and what the strap does after the membership ends
  • The amount of the one-time upgrade fee for current members

How much does WHOOP cost?

WHOOP sells yearly memberships with no separate hardware price113. On WHOOP’s US pages, checked Oct 26, 2026, One is $199 a year, Peak $239 and Life $359113. The MG comes only with Life, so three years come to $1,077 before tax, and memberships renew at WHOOP’s then-current price513. A trade-in can take up to $119 off the first year only, and renewals are at full price112. Skip the MG if you don’t need its FDA-cleared ECG feature, since Peak costs $120 a year less613.

The practical details.

Specifications for WHOOP MG
Exact variantLife membership at $359 a year, including the WHOOP MG device, Wireless PowerPack and a choice of band
Membership cost$359 a year for Life, the only tier that includes the MG. Peak is $239 a year and One is $199 a year, both with a WHOOP 5.0 device. WHOOP's membership pages list yearly prices only. Memberships renew at WHOOP's then-current price until you cancel.
What Life includesThe MG device, a Wireless PowerPack and a choice of band. It also includes everything in Peak: Healthspan with WHOOP Age, Pace of Aging, Health Monitor alerts and a real-time Stress Monitor. On top of that come Heart Screener with ECG, on-demand AFib detection and Blood Pressure Insights.
Battery and charging14+ days per charge. A full charge takes about 2 hours. The Wireless PowerPack slides onto the sensor and charges it while you wear it. WHOOP says a fully charged PowerPack holds enough power for up to 30 days to fully charge the sensor. The join page calls the PowerPack that comes with Life waterproof.
Display and GPSNo display or built-in GPS. You read your data in the WHOOP app.
SensorsWHOOP says its sensors capture data 26 times per second. The FDA's summary says the ECG reads from electrodes on the strap. WHOOP's launch release says you touch the ECG-conductive clasp to take a reading. Its heart health page says light sensors read your PPG pulse waveform overnight.
ECG (Heart Screener)The FDA cleared the WHOOP ECG feature on April 4, 2025 (510(k) K243236) for adults 22 and older. It classifies a 30-second recording as AFib, normal sinus rhythm, low heart rate, high heart rate, inconclusive or unsuccessful. WHOOP says it isn't for people with known arrhythmias other than AFib, and isn't recommended with a pacemaker or ICD. It isn't available in every region.
ECG study resultsThe study behind the clearance had about 540 subjects with a mean age of 60.4. The feature had 96.2% sensitivity for AFib and 99.4% specificity for sinus rhythm on classifiable recordings. The reference was a cardiologist's reading of a simultaneous 12-lead ECG. The feature called 11% of recordings inconclusive.
Blood Pressure InsightsA daily systolic and diastolic range, estimated once a day from overnight sensor data. WHOOP calls it a beta feature for wellness and says it is not a medical device. You calibrate it with cuff readings you log in the app. WHOOP says your true value may be higher or lower than the range shown. It also says the feature isn't intended for use if you are pregnant or on blood pressure medication.
FDA status of Blood Pressure InsightsNo clearance is listed. The FDA's 510(k) records under WHOOP's name show only the ECG feature. In July 2025 the FDA told WHOOP it was marketing Blood Pressure Insights without clearance or approval. In June 2026 the FDA closed that warning letter, saying it doesn't intend to enforce device requirements for the feature as modified. The close-out letter doesn't say the feature is cleared, approved or validated.
Trial and trade upThe one-month free trial uses a certified pre-owned WHOOP 5.0 device on Peak, not an MG. WHOOP says free trials of Life aren't available. Trading in an eligible Oura Ring, Apple Watch, Garmin or Samsung watch takes up to $119 off the first year, and a Fitbit is worth $30. You have 30 days to ship the old device and charger. If you don't, WHOOP may suspend the membership or charge you the discount.
Upgrading to MGCurrent members can move up to Life at any time and get a new MG device. WHOOP's membership page says you pay a prorated amount. Its terms also describe a membership extension or a one-time upgrade fee, and give no amount for the fee.
DimensionsWHOOP doesn't state dimensions, weight or water resistance for the MG on the pages checked. Its launch release says 5.0 and MG pack more technology into a form factor seven percent smaller, without giving measurements.
MaterialsWHOOP doesn't say what the MG's housing is made of on the pages checked. Its membership FAQs name the Life band as a Titanium SuperKnit Luxe band but don't list band materials. The join page says Life comes with your choice of 6 included bands, and it lists 10 more band colors. The launch release mentions an ECG-conductive clasp but doesn't name its material.

Before you buy

InstallationNo installation

No installation. The strap pairs with the WHOOP app. For the ECG, WHOOP's launch release says you place your thumb and index finger on the ECG-conductive clasp. If you buy from WHOOP, your membership starts when you connect the device or 30 days after delivery, whichever comes first. The pages checked don't say which bands have the conductive clasp.

WarrantyLifetime warranty with device replacement, for as long as your membership is active…

Lifetime warranty with device replacement, for as long as your membership is active and paid up. WHOOP's terms cover defects in materials or workmanship. You need a valid payment method on file and a device bought from WHOOP or an authorized reseller. The terms exclude lost devices, including lost chargers or PowerPacks. They also exclude misuse, normal wear and tear, accidents, theft and cosmetic damage. WHOOP may repair or replace the device, or refund the device share of the membership price. You may pay shipping and handling for the replacement. The warranty can't be transferred.

ReturnsYou have 30 days from receipt to cancel and return the device for a full refund…

You have 30 days from receipt to cancel and return the device for a full refund of the initial membership fee, less return shipping. You contact WHOOP support for a return label, and the device has to arrive within 30 days of your request. After 30 days WHOOP refunds nothing. Canceling later ends the membership at the end of the current term, with no prorated refund. The 30-day policy doesn't apply to free trials. Once you request a return, you can't use the account tied to that device. Reseller purchases follow the reseller's return policy. A wearable you trade in can't be returned, even if you cancel in the first 30 days.

More about this assessment

WHOOP MG is the device that comes with WHOOP Life, the top of WHOOP's three annual memberships, at $359 a year in the US. WHOOP lists no separate hardware price, so the MG, a Wireless PowerPack and a band are part of the Life price. Life adds a Heart Screener with ECG, on-demand AFib detection and Blood Pressure Insights to everything in Peak. The FDA cleared WHOOP's ECG feature in April 2025 for adults 22 and older. Blood Pressure Insights isn't cleared. The FDA sent WHOOP a warning letter about it in July 2025. In June 2026 it closed the letter, saying it doesn't intend to enforce device requirements for the feature as modified. Three years comes to $1,077 before tax.

Strengths on paper

  • The FDA cleared the ECG feature in April 2025, and the FDA's summary gives sensitivity and specificity from a study of about 540 subjects
  • WHOOP rates the battery at 14+ days, and the included PowerPack charges the strap while it stays on your wrist
  • No upfront hardware cost: the MG, PowerPack and band come with Life
  • Lifetime warranty with replacement while the membership stays active
  • 30 days to cancel and return for a refund of the initial fee, less return shipping
  • Trading in an eligible wearable takes up to $119 off the first year

Limitations

  • You pay every year: $1,077 over three years at the listed price, and renewals follow WHOOP's then-current price
  • The ECG clearance covers adults 22 and older, and 11% of recordings in the study were inconclusive
  • Blood Pressure Insights has no FDA clearance, is labeled beta, and WHOOP's validation claim for it rests on its own data
  • WHOOP's heart health page lists clinical-grade ECG and blood pressure insights together for Life, though the clearance covers only the ECG feature
  • The warranty depends on an active, paid membership
  • No display, so you read everything in the app
  • WHOOP doesn't publish MG dimensions, weight or water resistance on the pages checked
  • Published sleep accuracy data cover earlier WHOOP straps, not the MG, and sleep-stage agreement was only moderate (kappa 0.46)

Replacement parts & cost assumptions

No scheduled consumable is listed. That doesn’t mean zero maintenance or repair costs.

  • WHOOP lists no separate hardware price, since the MG, PowerPack and band come with Life. So the purchase price is $0, and the $359 yearly Life fee goes under other annual costs. Three years comes to 3 x $359 = $1,077 before tax.
  • This assumes Life renews at $359 each year. WHOOP's terms say memberships auto-renew at the then-current price, so the fee can change. The estimate leaves out shipping and tax.
  • The estimate deducts nothing for a trade in. WHOOP applies that discount, up to $119, to the first year only, and renewals are at full price.
  • WHOOP lists no replaceable parts or refills, so annual consumables are $0. It doesn't state charging power draw, so energy cost is unknown.
  • Life costs $120 a year more than Peak ($239) and $160 a year more than One ($199).

  • Regulator recordOn April 4, 2025 the FDA cleared the WHOOP ECG Feature (510(k) K243236, Class II, product code QDA). It is software for use with the WHOOP Strap (the summary lists the WHOOP MG) and creates a single-channel ECG similar to a Lead I ECG. It determines the presence of AFib, normal sinus rhythm, low heart rate and high heart rate on a classifiable waveform. It is for over-the-counter use by adults 22 and older and isn't recommended for users with other known arrhythmias. The FDA's summary says the data are informational and not meant to replace traditional methods of diagnosis or treatment. In a clinical trial of about 540 subjects, sensitivity for AFib was 96.2% and specificity for sinus rhythm was 99.4% on classifiable recordings. With inconclusive recordings included, an AFib result for a subject in AFib came back 87.47% of the time.6 The summary says real-world performance for inconclusive and poor recordings may differ. The summary names the predicate device as the Apple ECG App (K201525) and says the strap firmware contains the FDA-cleared B-Secur HeartKey Software Library.
  • Regulator recordThe FDA sent WHOOP a warning letter on July 14, 2025. It said WHOOP was marketing Blood Pressure Insights without marketing clearance or approval. It said the FDA had not authorized the feature for any use, including estimating blood pressure. The letter said a blood pressure estimate is inherently associated with diagnosing low and high blood pressure. It added that an erroneously low or high reading can have significant consequences. A close-out letter followed on June 17, 2026. It rested on changes WHOOP made to the feature and its labeling, and on the FDA's updated General Wellness guidance. The FDA said it does not intend to enforce the device statutory and regulatory requirements for Blood Pressure Insights as modified. The letter is specific to the feature as modified and not to any other product, feature or modification.78 The close-out letter doesn't list the changes and doesn't say the feature is cleared, approved or validated. The FDA's updated General Wellness guidance is dated January 6, 2026. The FDA 510(k) search under WHOOP's name lists only the ECG feature.
  • Manufacturer claimWHOOP calls Blood Pressure Insights a beta wellness feature. It estimates a daily range once a day and needs cuff readings to calibrate. WHOOP says it trained and validated the model on data from over 11,000 unique users across 32,000 sleep sessions. It says blood pressure was measured shortly after waking and compared against cuff readings. It also says the feature is not a replacement for a validated medical device.134 This is WHOOP's own account of its data. WHOOP gives no error figures on the pages checked, and it says your true value may be higher or lower than the range shown. No independent Blood Pressure Insights validation study was reviewed for this review.
  • Published studyA 2024 systematic review compared Fitbit Charge 4, Garmin Vivosmart 4 and WHOOP with polysomnography or an ambulatory EEG. It included four WHOOP studies of 5 to 53 participants. Their total sleep time differences averaged 1.4 minutes under the reference. Single studies ran from 17.8 minutes under to 16.2 minutes over. In the three studies that reported them, WHOOP detected sleep with 91.7% sensitivity and correctly identified about 56% of wake. Sleep-stage agreement was 62%, with a kappa of 0.46, which the review's scale calls moderate. Of the three devices, WHOOP's REM sleep estimate differed most from the reference (21.0 minutes).9 Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO) funded the review, and the authors declared no conflicts. It doesn't name the WHOOP generation, was published in March 2024, and predates WHOOP 5.0 and the MG. It doesn't cover ECG or blood pressure. The underlying studies were small.
