The verdict

Polar Loop gives you sleep, HRV and recovery scores in a screen-free band for $199.99. Polar says no feature needs a subscription, and it rates the battery at up to 8 days. The catch is what's missing: there's no GPS of its own, and Polar lists no skin temperature or blood oxygen sensing.

The trade-off

You need your phone for GPS, and Polar lists no skin temperature or blood oxygen sensing.

Before you buy

InstallationNo installation

No installation. You set it up with the Polar Flow app. The product page doesn't list minimum phone or operating system versions. In the box are the Loop, the SoftWeave bands, a buckle and a Polar Charge 2.0 charging cable. Polar lists the cable as proprietary USB-C. No power adapter is listed.

WarrantyPolar Electro, Inc

Polar Electro, Inc. issues the guarantee for products sold in the US and Canada. It covers the original buyer against defects for two years from the date of purchase. Silicone or plastic wristbands get one year. Textile and leather wristbands aren't covered, so the SoftWeave bands have no guarantee. Normal battery wear, accidents, misuse and cracked or scratched cases are excluded. Polar's returns page says battery replacement is covered for the first six months. Covered products are repaired or replaced, and you'll need the receipt as proof of purchase.

ReturnsPolar's online store takes returns within 30 days

Polar's online store takes returns within 30 days. Items must be unused, in good condition and in the original packaging. You send them with a completed return form and a copy of the packing slip. Shipping costs are refunded only for damaged or defective products. The policy doesn't mention a restocking fee or say how long refunds take. It also doesn't say whether the 30 days start at purchase or delivery.

3-year known subtotal

$199.99

Incomplete: energy use. This is not the full ownership cost.

Energy component: Unknown

Purchase + installation + years × (annual consumables + annual other) + watts/1000 × hours/day × 365 × years × $/kWh. Annualized allowances, not an exact replacement schedule. Excludes taxes, shipping, finance and resale unless entered.
Replacement parts & cost assumptions

No scheduled consumable is listed. That does not mean zero maintenance or repair costs.

  • The purchase price is $199.99 before tax, Polar's US price for the Night Black SoftWeave Textile bundle. It includes the SoftWeave bands, a buckle and the charging cable, and shipping is free. With no required fee or part, the three-year estimate is $199.99 plus charging energy, which is unknown.
  • Annual other costs are $0 because Polar says there are no monthly fees and no locked features. The Strava, TrainingPeaks and Clue trials are optional and aren't counted.
  • Annual consumables are $0 because Polar lists no required parts or refills. Spare bands cost $29.90 to $49.99 if you want one, and they aren't counted. Neither are battery wear or repairs.
  • Polar doesn't state the charger's power draw or the charging time, so energy is unknown. At up to 8 days per charge, you'd charge about once a week.
