A GOOD FIT FOR

You want plain creatine monohydrate from a product in NSF's Certified for Sport database, with lot numbers you can check.

  • An athlete subject to drug testing who wants a creatine in NSF's Certified for Sport database and will match the tub's lot number
  • Plain creatine monohydrate, 5 g a scoop, with no other ingredients

THINK TWICE IF

  • If you want to buy from Klean's own page without an account, since it asks you to log in to add to cart
  • If you want a flavored drink mix or capsules instead of a scoop of unflavored powder
  • If you're pregnant, nursing, have a health condition or take medication, ask a health professional first, as Klean advises
  • If you may want to return an opened tub, since the policy doesn't say whether it qualifies and charges a 15% processing fee plus shipping
What still needs checking
  • Which NSF entry a given tub's lot number sits in
  • The NSF certification date, which neither entry shows
  • Whether the page's retail price applies to every buyer, since it asks you to log in
  • Whether an opened tub qualifies for return
  • Who makes the creatine and where it comes from
  • Klean's net weight for the tub

Replacement parts & cost assumptions

Recorded recurring parts and refills:

  • Klean Creatine 315 g tub (KA57692P-315): $34.50 about every 9 weeks. One tub lasts about 60 days (about 1.97 months) at one scoop a day, using the label's approximately 60 servings. The cost is the $34.50 retail price, before tax and shipping.
  • Annual refills at one scoop a day: 365 servings / 60 per tub x $34.50 = $209.88 at the retail price on Klean's page. That leaves out tax and shipping.
  • The first $34.50 tub counts as the purchase, and refills cover three full years. So the three-year estimate includes about one tub more than 1,095 daily servings would need.

Evidence & sources.

Do creatine, fish oil, vitamin D and magnesium work? Our evidence review grades the research as Mixed. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • CertificationNSF's Certified for Sport database lists two entries for the 315 g unflavored powder with a 5 g serving: "Klean Athlete® Klean Creatine" for the United States with 2 certified lot numbers, and "Klean Creatine" with 16 certified lot numbers and no country of sale shown. A third entry is for Canada.35 You can match the lot number on your tub to the listed lots. Neither entry shows a certification date. A sport certification is about what's in the product, not about health effects.
  • Manufacturer claimKlean's product sheet, dated March 2022, says Klean Creatine is tested and certified by the NSF Certified for Sport program. It says no adverse side effects have been reported and suggests 3 to 5 g a day with no loading phase. Klean's page says creatine is clinically studied to help increase body strength, build muscle mass and recover more quickly.16 These are Klean's own statements, and the page carries the standard FDA disclaimer. The sheet cites studies but doesn't say what they found.
  • Independent testNIH's Office of Dietary Supplements describes a typical creatine regimen as a 5 to 7 day loading phase of 20 g a day, then 3 to 5 g a day, or single doses of about 3 to 6 g a day for 3 to 4 weeks without loading. It reports no consistent side effects apart from weight gain, which can reach 1 to 2 kg in a month, and calls creatine safe for short-term use by healthy adults.8 One scoop gives 5 g, at the top of the maintenance range. ODS says creatine is of little value for endurance sports and that people respond differently.
  • Published studyA 2017 meta-analysis pooled 22 randomized trials with 721 adults, mean ages 57 to 70, who did resistance training while taking creatine or a placebo. The trials ran 7 to 52 weeks. Creatine groups gained 1.37 kg more lean tissue mass (95% CI 0.97 to 1.76). Chest press and leg press strength also rose more, by standardized mean differences of 0.35 and 0.24.7 The trials tested creatine in older adults during resistance training, not this product. The outcomes were lean mass and strength tests, not health outcomes.
  • Regulator recordOn Oct 20, 2026, FDA's recall data and warning letter search showed nothing under Klean Athlete.910 An empty result isn't a safety finding on its own.
