About this price

This is the one-time list price on Thorne's product page ("$44 /90 Scoop(s)"), before tax and shipping. That's about $0.49 per 5 g serving. The page showed no sale, crossed-out or subscription price. The 180-serving size (SF904) is listed on its own page at $84, about $0.47 a serving. It isn't used here because this review covers SF903.

A GOOD FIT FOR

An athlete subject to drug testing, or anyone who wants a plain daily 5 g dose of creatine monohydrate from a product in NSF's Certified for Sport database.

  • An adult who wants plain 5 g creatine monohydrate per scoop, with no other ingredients listed
  • An athlete subject to drug testing who wants a creatine in NSF's Certified for Sport database, and who can match the tub's lot number to NSF's list

THINK TWICE IF

  • Anyone who mainly wants the lowest price per gram and doesn't need a sport certification
  • Anyone who wants a flavored drink mix or capsules instead of a scoop of powder
  • Anyone with a history of hypersensitivity to creatine monohydrate, which Thorne lists as a contraindication
  • Anyone pregnant who hasn't yet consulted a health-care practitioner, as Thorne advises
  • Anyone under 18 in New York, where Thorne says state law prohibits selling it to them
What still needs checking
  • Whether a given tub's lot number is among the 66 lots NSF lists
  • The SKU and certification date for NSF's listing, which shows neither
  • Any subscription discount, which neither size's product page shows
  • The container size and net weight of SKU SF903, which Thorne doesn't state
  • Why the product page's "Thorne Verified" badges include "Derived From Natural Flavors" and "Derived From Natural Colors" when no flavor or color ingredient is listed
  • Who pays return shipping
  • The source or manufacturer of the creatine monohydrate

Thorne's returns FAQ says you can request a return within 60 days of the date you bought from Thorne. Its 60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee covers products bought from Thorne's website or an authorized seller in the United States, for a refund or a product credit. The catch is that all approved returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee. Thorne also doesn't refund or exchange product past its expiration date. The page doesn't say who pays return shipping. For opened products, it only asks you to call Customer Service.

Every field has a value. This is an estimate, not a quote.

Energy component: $0.00

Purchase + installation + years × (annual consumables + annual other) + watts/1000 × hours/day × 365 × years × $/kWh. Annualized allowances, not an exact replacement schedule. Excludes taxes, shipping, finance and resale unless entered.
Replacement parts & cost assumptions

Recorded recurring parts and refills:

  • Thorne Creatine 90-serving container (SF903): $44 every 2.96 months. One container lasts 90 days (about 2.96 months) at the label dose of 1 scoop a day. The cost is the $44 one-time list price, before tax and shipping.
  • Annual refills at the label dose of one 5 g scoop a day: 365 servings / 90 per container x $44 = $178.44 at the one-time list price. That leaves out tax and shipping. It also leaves out any subscription discount, because the product page showed no subscription price.
  • The first $44 container counts as the purchase, and refills cover three full years. So the three-year estimate includes about one container more than 1,095 daily servings would need.
  • The 180-serving size (SF904) at its $84 list price would bring annual refills to about $170.33 (365 / 180 x $84).

Evidence & sources.

Do creatine, fish oil, vitamin D and magnesium work? Our evidence review grades the research as Mixed. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • CertificationNSF's Certified for Sport database lists "Thorne® Creatine" by Thorne as an amino acid/creatine powder. The listing gives a serving size of 1 scoop (5 g) and package sizes of 450 g and 900 g. It lists the flavor as "Other", a gluten free claim and the United States as the country of sale. It shows 66 certified lot numbers. It's the only creatine product in NSF's Thorne results.34 Checked in NSF's own database, not just taken from the mark on Thorne's page. The listing shows no SKU or certification date, and it doesn't describe what the program screens for. You can match the lot number on your tub to the listed lots. A sport certification is about what's in the product, not about health effects.
  • Manufacturer claimThorne's product page shows the NSF Certified for Sport mark. Thorne says the mark means the product has been tested for compliance with label claims and for the absence of nearly 300 substances banned by major athletic organizations. Thorne also says it tests each ingredient for identity, purity and potency, including checks for contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides and harmful microbes.1 These are Thorne's own statements, and the page doesn't publish Thorne's test results. A certification mark is about what's in the product, not whether it has any health effect.
  • Manufacturer claimThorne's product page describes the powder as creatine for lean muscle mass, endurance, cellular energy and brain function. It carries the standard dietary-supplement disclaimer that these statements haven't been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. It lists hypersensitivity to any ingredient as a contraindication and tells pregnant users to consult a health-care practitioner. It says there are no known adverse interactions or contraindications as of its publication date. It also notes that New York law prohibits sale to people under 18.1 These are Thorne's label and regulatory statements, not evidence about effects. The benefit claims aren't assessed here. Independent studies of creatine monohydrate aren't summarized either.
