A GOOD FIT FOR
You want one daily scoop that bundles a vitamin panel, plant extracts and probiotics, listed by NSF Certified for Sport.
- An adult who wants one daily scoop that combines a vitamin and mineral panel, plant extracts and probiotics
- A daily powder that NSF's Certified for Sport database lists
THINK TWICE IF
- If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, since AG1 says it's meant for adults who aren't
- If you avoid soy, since the Original and Tropical labels say Contains soy
- If you already take a zinc supplement or multivitamin, since one scoop adds 20 mg of zinc against a 40 mg adult upper limit
- If you want only vitamins and minerals, a plain multivitamin covers that, though we review none. For electrolytes alone, see Momentous Daily Hydration
- If you can't keep a pouch in the refrigerator, which AG1 says is needed after opening
What still needs checking
- Other ingredients and allergens on the Citrus and Berry labels
- The source of the lecithin
- NSF's certification dates for the Next Gen entries
Is AG1 third-party tested?
Yes. NSF’s Certified for Sport database lists AG1 Next Gen. The main US entry covers the 13 g serving and shows 72 certified lot numbers15. NSF’s dietary supplement listing names it too1.
AG1 says every batch is screened for more than 280 banned substances and tested for lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic5. A listing says what NSF checked, not whether AG1 has any health effect11.

More about this assessment
AG1 Next Gen is a greens powder: one 13 g scoop holds a vitamin and mineral panel, plant extracts and a probiotic blend of 10 billion viable cells. NSF's Certified for Sport database lists it, and its main US entry shows 72 certified lot numbers. A 30-serving pouch costs $99 bought once on AG1's US store, plus $9 shipping, or $3.30 a serving before shipping. Strengths on paper
- Listed in NSF's Certified for Sport database, with 72 certified lot numbers on its main US entry
- 40 calories, 2 g fiber and under 1 g sugars in a 13 g scoop
- AG1 says it tests every batch for lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic, and its quality page links test reports
- AG1's terms allow a refund request on a first order within 90 days
Limitations
- $99 for 30 servings bought once, plus $9 shipping, so about $1,205 a year at one scoop a day before shipping
- The refund covers a first order, needs the product sent back and doesn't return shipping costs
- The label gives totals for its plant complexes, not the amount of each ingredient
- The label panel carries 500 mg of vitamin C and 400 mcg of vitamin B12 in a scoop, so it overlaps with a multivitamin

Recorded recurring parts and refills:
- AG1 Next Gen 30-serving pouch: $99 about every 4 weeks. A pouch lasts 30 days (about 0.99 months) at one scoop a day. The cost is the $99 one-time price, before the $9 shipping and tax.
- Yearly refills at one 13 g scoop a day: 365 servings / 30 per pouch x $99 = $1,204.50 at the one-time price. That leaves out the $9 shipping on each one-time order, tax and any subscription price.
- The first $99 pouch counts as the purchase, and refills cover three full years, so the three-year estimate includes about one pouch more than 1,095 daily servings would need.

- CertificationNSF's dietary supplement listing at info.nsf.org (NSF/ANSI Standard 173, current as of Oct 20, 2026) names "AG1 Next Gen" as a 13 g powder, with Berry, Citrus and Tropical entries.111 NSF describes its NSF/ANSI 173 standard as an independent testing standard for dietary supplements. Certified for Sport is a separate NSF program with its own listing. A listing says what NSF checked in the product, not whether it has any health effect.
- CertificationNSF's Certified for Sport database lists 25 AG1 Next Gen entries, covering the plain powder, Berry, Citrus and Tropical, plus sampler and variety packs. The main entry is sold in the United States, with a 13 g serving and 72 certified lot numbers. Its package sizes are 13, 39, 91 and 390 g.2312131516 NSF also lists three older entries named AG1 - Athletic Greens. They have a 12 g serving and a different label.
- Manufacturer claimAG1 says every batch is free from more than 280 banned substances. AG1 says it tests every batch for lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic, screens for allergens, and links routine and annual test reports. It says it works with Alkemist Labs to confirm the identity and potency of botanical ingredients.45 These are AG1's own statements.
- Published studyA 2024 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial gave AG1 or a placebo to 15 men and 15 women for four weeks (La Monica and colleagues, J Int Soc Sports Nutr). The AG1 group's stool samples showed more of two probiotic strains, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum, which the authors say likely come from the product. Digestive quality-of-life scores weren't worse with AG1, and the apparent gain over placebo wasn't statistically significant (p = 0.058). Blood safety markers didn't change significantly.7 The trial was small and short. It used the earlier AG1 formula, not Next Gen. Two authors are employees of Athletic Greens International, and the paper says the funders had no role in analyzing the questionnaires and safety markers.
- Manufacturer claimAG1's page describes four randomized, placebo-controlled trials of its Next Gen formula in healthy adults, from an 8-hour study of 16 people to a 12-week study of 105. It also describes a single-arm study of 104 adults' self-reported benefits over three months.4 These are AG1's own descriptions and results. A single-arm study has no comparison group.
- Independent testNIH's Office of Dietary Supplements gives the adult Tolerable Upper Intake Level for zinc as 40 mg. It says doses of 50 mg or more taken for weeks can interfere with copper absorption.8 One AG1 scoop lists 20 mg of zinc. The upper limit counts all zinc intake, so a multivitamin or zinc supplement adds to it.
- Regulator recordOn Oct 20, 2026, FDA's recall data and warning letter search showed nothing under AG1 or Athletic Greens.910 An empty result isn't a safety finding on its own.
