Wyze Scale X

Low-cost Bluetooth smart scale with 13 body metrics and a weight-only mode, $38.98

Our founder, Porsche Ma, has used this one. Like every review here, it rests on published sources, not hands-on testing. Our method

The verdict

Wyze Scale X is a $38.98 Bluetooth scale that shows weight and body fat on its display and sends 13 metrics to the Wyze app. It suits you if you want cheap tracking and a weight-only setting that Wyze says switches the current off. The catch: Wyze gives no accuracy figure that names it, and an independent test of a Wyze Scale read body fat high on average. Look at the Withings Body Smart for Wi-Fi sync or the Renpho Elis 1 for a lower list price.

The trade-off

Wyze gives no accuracy figure that names the Scale X, and only weight and body fat show on the scale while the app holds the rest.

A GOOD FIT FOR

You want a low-cost scale that tracks weight trends and sends body readings to the Wyze app.

  • You want a low-cost scale that tracks weight and sends body readings to the Wyze app
  • You want a weight-only setting that Wyze says switches the current off, such as for a pacemaker or pregnancy
  • You want your readings to sync to Apple Health, Fitbit or Health Connect
  • You want baby, pet and luggage modes for weighing things you hold

THINK TWICE IF

  • You wear a pacemaker and want body-fat readings: Wyze says the current may affect a pacemaker, so you'd use the weight-only mode
  • You want fat and muscle readings for each arm and leg, which Wyze doesn't list for the Scale X
  • You need body-fat accuracy that an independent study has confirmed for this model
  • Your floor is carpeted, since Wyze says carpet affects calibration
What still needs checking
  • Accuracy of the Scale X's weight and body composition readings: Wyze gives no figure, and no study naming the Scale X was found
  • Which Wyze Scale model the 2023 study tested
  • Whether the Wyze app or any scale feature ever needs a paid plan
  • What replacement AAA batteries cost, since Wyze doesn't price them
  • Shipping cost for a single scale

Is the Wyze Scale X accurate?

Wyze gives no accuracy figure that names the Scale X, and its FAQ says readings may differ from those of professional-grade instruments1.

Wyze’s accuracy page for “Wyze Scale” claims weight within ±0.5% and impedance data within ±1% of a full-scale reading5. That page names no model, so it may not cover the Scale X.

In a 2023 lab study of 73 healthy adults, a Wyze Scale read body fat 3.6 percentage points high on average against a four-compartment model7. The paper gives no model number, so it may not be the Scale X7.

Can you use the Wyze Scale X with a pacemaker?

Wyze says the current may affect a pacemaker, but you can use the scale if you turn on weight-only mode, which disables the current1.

For pregnancy, there are no known risks with the current, but results may not be accurate, and Wyze advises consulting your physician first1.

Does the Wyze Scale X need a subscription?

Wyze lists no subscription, but it doesn’t say whether the app ever charges1.

The scale pairs with the Wyze app over Bluetooth, and Wyze lists syncing to Apple Health, Fitbit and Health Connect1. The page prices only the scale itself, at $38.9812.

More about this assessment

Wyze Scale X is a Bluetooth smart scale that Wyze lists at $38.98. It shows weight and body fat on its display and sends 13 body metrics to the Wyze app. Wyze says the body readings come from four electrodes in the glass surface. Wyze gives no accuracy figure that names the Scale X, and its one accuracy page names a "Wyze Scale" with no model. A 2023 lab study found a Wyze Scale read body fat high on average. Wyze says the current may affect a pacemaker and offers a weight-only mode that switches it off.

Strengths on paper

  • Lists at $38.98 in all four color and pattern options
  • Up to 22 months of battery life from four included AAA batteries, per Wyze
  • Weight-only mode switches off the current, and Wyze says you can use the scale with a pacemaker in that mode
  • Syncs to Apple Health, Fitbit and Health Connect
  • 18 months of warranty and 30 days of returns with a prepaid label when you buy on wyze.com

Limitations

  • Wyze gives no accuracy figure that names the Scale X, and its FAQ says readings may differ from professional instruments
  • The accuracy page Wyze offers names a "Wyze Scale" with no model, so it may not cover the Scale X
  • In a 2023 lab study, a Wyze Scale of no stated model read body fat 3.6 points high on average against a four-compartment model
  • Only weight and body fat show on the scale. The other metrics, including heart rate, need the Wyze app
  • Wyze says the current may affect a pacemaker, so those users need weight-only mode
  • Returns are accepted only for scales bought on wyze.com or in the Wyze app, and the warranty drops to 1 year from a retailer
  • Hard, flat floors only, and bare feet for body composition

PLAN YOUR OWNERSHIP COSTS

What will it cost to own?

Change the assumptions to fit your use. Leave an unknown cost blank. Add water, subscriptions, cleaning, shipping and taxes if they apply. Use average operating power, not the maximum rating.

3-year known subtotal

$38.98

Incomplete: annual consumables, other annual costs, energy use. This is not the full ownership cost.

Energy component: Unknown

Purchase + installation + years × (annual consumables + annual other) + watts/1000 × hours/day × 365 × years × $/kWh. Annualized allowances, not an exact replacement schedule. Excludes taxes, shipping, finance and resale unless entered.
Replacement parts & cost assumptions

Recorded recurring parts and refills:

  • AAA batteries (four): price not stated, every 22 months. Wyze includes the first set and says up to 22 months of battery life. It doesn't price replacements.
  • Purchase is the $38.98 list price on Oct 23, 2026, before tax. The $6 Wyze Week offer the page advertises isn't counted.
  • Other annual costs are unknown. Wyze lists no subscription, but it doesn't say whether the app ever charges.
  • Annual consumables are unknown. The box has four AAA batteries that Wyze says can last up to 22 months, but Wyze doesn't price replacements. The scale is battery-powered, so energy use isn't counted.

Evidence & sources.

Are smart scales worth it? Our evidence review grades the research as Moderate. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • Manufacturer claimPrice, specs, modes, battery life, connectivity and use guidance come from Wyze's US product page. Return terms and the warranty come from Wyze's return policy and limited warranty terms, effective June 12, 2026.14 Manufacturer information, not independent testing. The product page and the policy differ on the warranty. The spec list says 1-year. The policy says 18 months for purchases from Wyze on or after Jan 1, 2026.
  • Manufacturer claimWyze's FAQ says the Scale X uses bioelectrical impedance to estimate body composition, and results may differ from professional-grade instruments or methods. The current may affect a pacemaker. Wyze says the scale can be used with a pacemaker or in pregnancy if weight-only mode is on, which disables the current. For pregnancy, Wyze says there are no known risks with the current, but results may not be accurate. It advises consulting a physician first.1 This is Wyze's own guidance, not a clinical finding.
  • Manufacturer claimWyze's accuracy page for "Wyze Scale" says it reports weight within ±0.5% of a full-scale reading, and bioelectrical impedance data within ±1%. It also says incorrect setup details make the measurements incorrect.5 The page names no model, so it may not cover the Scale X. It doesn't say how the figures were tested. A percentage of full-scale reading isn't the same as the body-fat error a person would see.
  • Published studyA 2023 laboratory study of 73 healthy adults aged 19 to 50 compared 15 body-fat devices with a four-compartment reference model. A Wyze Scale read an average of 3.6 percentage points high (95% CI 2.2 to 5.0). Its total error against the reference model was 6.9 points. The paper rated its standard error of the estimate "poor".7 The paper names the device "Wyze Scale" with no model number, so it may not be the Scale X. A separate RENPHO scale and a Withings Body Cardio were also in the study.
  • Regulator recordFDA's openFDA 510(k) data returned no record with Wyze as applicant or in a device name. Wyze's Scale X page claims no FDA clearance.168 A database search isn't proof that no listing exists. Wyze's pacemaker and pregnancy guidance is its own, not a regulator's.
