The six red light panels side by side
The 1500X’s door-hanging kit is in the box, and Mito charges no restocking fee12. Hooga doesn’t say how it measured its figures1516. The BIOMAX 900 has no published irradiance, though, and charges a 20% restocking fee79.
Joovv’s Solo 3.0 is for app control and its modular system, at the highest price22. The BON CHARGE Super Max is harder to recommend with its one-year warranty21. So is the Kala Elite, with a backorder notice and an unconfirmed FDA badge2528. We reviewed no outcome study of these panels.
Prices are US prices on each maker’s page, before tax, checked on October 13, 2026. Joovv’s and Kala’s were sale prices. Figures are the makers’ own unless a cell names a lab or an FDA record.

Which one fits which need
These are picks for different needs, not a ranking. Start with how much of your body you want to cover from one spot. Then look at what each maker tells you about the light.
- You want one panel for full-body sessions: MitoPRO 1500X. At $1,299 it’s the tallest here, 10 by 43 inches, and Mito rates it for the full body1. The door hook and steel cables come in the box, and the warranty is three years12. Mito gives you 60 days to return it with no restocking fee2. The catch: you pay return shipping on a 25 lb panel unless you bought Mito’s optional protection12. Mito also publishes output only at 6 inches, half the closest distance it recommends13.
- You want output figures at the distance you’ll use: Hooga PRO1500. Hooga lists 218 mW/cm² at 3 inches down to 102 at 18 inches1516. It’s $1,199, and a door mount, pulley kit and goggles come in the box15. The warranty is three years15. The catch: Hooga names no meter or lab for those figures, and its pages give both 530 W and 300 W for power1516. Return shipping comes out of your refund18. The policy also says open-box items can’t be refunded, without saying whether that covers a panel you’ve unboxed18.
- You want more wavelengths, or plan to link more panels later: BIOMAX 900. PlatinumLED lists seven wavelengths from 480 to 1060 nm on 300 LEDs, for $1,2997. A door hook and hanging bracket come in the box, and it links with other original BIOMAX panels78. The catch: PlatinumLED publishes no irradiance for the 9007. A change-of-mind return costs a 20% restocking fee, $259.80, plus shipping on a 33 lb panel79.
- You want app control and a system you can grow: Joovv Solo 3.0. It runs from an iOS and Android app, with Recovery+ pulsing, ambient and alarm-clock modes22. It also pairs with other Joovv panels to build a bigger setup22. Joovv says Intertek certified its Generation 3.0 devices to IEC 60601 medical electrical safety requirements22. The catch: it’s $1,699 on sale for 150 LEDs, and Joovv rates it for moderate coverage2223. Its product page lists no wavelengths, power draw or box contents22.
- BON CHARGE Super Max: hard to justify on paper. It’s a $1,599, 35.5-inch panel with 300 dual-chip LEDs at 660 and 850 nm20. The door mount, cables and pulley come in the box20. The Hooga PRO1500 lists the same LED count and wavelengths, with a door mount and pulley kit, for $400 less1520. The Super Max’s warranty is one year, and you pay to ship it back for a claim21. Its figure of over 162 mW/cm² has no measuring distance20.
- Kala Elite: the lowest price, if you can wait. It’s $1,139.99 on sale for a 35.4-inch, 231-LED panel at 660 and 850 nm25. Kala gives 161 mW/cm² at 6 inches, and the warranty is two years25. The catch: the page showed a backorder notice whose warehouse date seems to have passed25. Kala’s page shows an “FDA Cleared” badge, but the FDA record found for a “KALA Elite” model lists an exempt infrared heating lamp2528. Returns need pre-approval and cost $15 plus shipping27.
Why the output numbers don’t line up
Irradiance is the light power reaching each square centimeter of skin, and it drops as you step back. Hooga’s own figures fall from 189 mW/cm² at 6 inches to 102 at 181516. So a figure without a distance tells you little. BON CHARGE gives over 162 mW/cm² and Joovv over 100, and neither says at what distance2023.
The meter matters too. For the 1500X, Mito lists over 160 mW/cm² at 6 inches on a consumer meter, and over 73 on a professional spectroradiometer1. The outside lab Mito paid measured a 53.5 mW/cm² average and a 72.5 peak at the same distance3. Hooga and Kala name no meter or lab for their figures1525.
PlatinumLED publishes no irradiance for the BIOMAX 900. The chart and lab report linked under it belong to the BIOMAX PRO ULTRA, a 432-LED panel that drew 772.6 W712. The 900’s own lab report measured total light output in a sphere, not what reaches you at a distance11.
Watts aren’t a dose either. BON CHARGE’s 1,500 W equals 300 LEDs at 5 W each, so it may be a nominal rating20. Mito reports a lab reading of 418.7 W at the wall for the 1500X, and LightLab measured 490.9 W for the BIOMAX 900311. Hooga’s pages list 530 W and 300 W, and Kala’s only wattage figure doesn’t add up151625.
What they cost to own
None of the six lists bulbs, filters or a subscription, so the price is most of what you’ll spend1715202225. Electricity is small: with 10-minute sessions six days a week, Mito’s lab wall reading puts the 1500X at about 21 kWh a year13. Ten-minute sessions five days a week put the PRO1500 at about 23 kWh, using its higher power figure15. Twenty-minute sessions five days a week put the BIOMAX 900 at about 43 kWh7. Joovv, BON CHARGE and Kala don’t publish enough to estimate it202225.
Mounting is where extras creep in. Mito’s stands cost $139 or $349, and PlatinumLED’s run $139 to $869, though none names the 90011434. Kala’s Roller Boot and stand setups cost $310 to $610 more than the no-stand version on sale2526. Joovv didn’t show prices for its door, wall or stand setups2223.
Sending a panel back costs money with most of these brands. A BIOMAX 900 return costs $259.80 plus shipping, and Kala charges a $15 fee plus shipping927. Mito, BON CHARGE and Hooga leave return shipping to you by default21821. Joovv’s store listing mentions a 60-day trial but no return terms23.
What the FDA labels mean
Four appear in FDA records under product code ILY: the MitoPRO X series, BIOMAX 900, Joovv Solo 3.0 and a “KALA Elite” model4132428. The regulation defines an infrared lamp as a device that emits infrared energy for topical heating, and exempts it from 510(k) review29. A listing like that isn’t a clearance. It isn’t a finding that a panel works for any health use either.
The badges promise more than the records show. Mito and BON CHARGE call their panels “FDA Class II registered”, and PlatinumLED’s BIOMAX page uses the phrase “FDA Class II medical device”1720. Kala shows an “FDA Cleared” badge25. Hooga is the plainest: it says its panels are listed under ILY and aren’t 510(k) cleared19. BON CHARGE gives no listing number or product code, and Hooga shares its listing only on request1920.
Electrical safety is a separate question. Intertek’s ETL directory and UL both list the MitoPRO 1500X56. Joovv says Intertek certified its 3.0 devices to IEC 60601, and Hooga says its finished panel isn’t UL or ETL listed1922. These listings cover electrical safety, not light output or results.
If you don’t need a full-length panel
Mito’s 750X is the same series at about half the height: 10 by 23 inches for $74930. It has the door kit and three-year warranty, but Mito rates it for the upper or lower body per session30. So covering your whole body takes two sessions.
For your face, neck or one joint, Mito’s 300X is $449 with a tabletop stand31. PlatinumLED’s BIOMAX 300 is $659, with a door hook in the box32. Its lab report gives a 56.25 mW/cm² average at 12 inches, and it was also measured at 6, 18 and 24 inches33. If it’s only your face, compare these with the LED masks in the face mask comparison.
