The verdict

The BIOMAX 900 is PlatinumLED's biggest original panel, with 300 LEDs and a door-hanging kit for $1,299. It's for covering a large area in one session. The catch is that PlatinumLED publishes no irradiance for it, and the chart on its page shows a newer, more powerful panel.

The trade-off

You can't work out a dose from published figures, and a return costs $259.80 plus shipping.

About this price

$1,299 is the regular price on PlatinumLED's US BIOMAX page, with no sale shown. PlatinumLED's online store shows the same $1,299 for the BIOMAX 900, with no markdown, and lists the panel as available. The page's "Save $150" banner is for the BIOMAX PRO line, not this panel. The price is before tax. The store description promises free US shipping, but the shipping page doesn't give a US shipping cost. Stands cost extra.

A GOOD FIT FOR

You want one large panel that works without an app or subscription and can grow into a linked BIOMAX setup.

  • You want one large panel for your back, torso or legs and will hang it over a door or buy a stand
  • You might link more BIOMAX panels later: four 900s in Remote mode share one 15 or 20 A breaker
  • You don't want to pay for bulbs, filters or a subscription
  • You care more about LED count and coverage than a published dose figure

THINK TWICE IF

  • You want to know the irradiance at your distance before you buy
  • You need an FDA-cleared device, since the FDA listing shows no 510(k)
  • You want a free trial: elective returns cost 20% of the price plus return shipping
  • You own or plan to buy BIOMAX PRO panels, because the two lines can't be linked
  • You want flicker or EMF claims backed by a published test
What still needs checking
  • Irradiance at any distance
  • Whether the simple remote's "full power" means 490 W or the 380 W Remote mode
  • Which stand can carry a 33 lb panel, since no weight limits are published
  • Who pays shipping on a warranty claim
  • Whether the warranty starts at purchase or delivery
  • US shipping cost, since the store says free and the shipping page gives no price
  • Fan noise
  • Whether the light flickers
  • Peak wavelengths, since the lab report gives none
  • What the scanned ETL and CB documents for the 600 and 900 actually cover

The practical details.

Before you buy

InstallationThe door hook and hanging bracket come in the box, and PlatinumLED's FAQ…

The door hook and hanging bracket come in the box, and PlatinumLED's FAQ mentions an included over-the-door hanging kit. Stands cost extra, stand sales are final, and no stand listing names the 900. The Mobile Floor Stand ($139) fits "BIO and BIOMAX panels" but tells you to check its weight capacity, which isn't published. The wall bracket ($79) and four other stands say "BIOMAX panels only". Those stands run from $219 for the XL Mobile Floor Stand to $869 for the XL Motorized Horizontal Stand. The 900 draws 4.4 A at 110 V in Solo mode, and PlatinumLED says its lights also run on 220 V.

WarrantyThree years

Three years. PlatinumLED's warranty page says it runs from the delivery date in one place and from the purchase date in another. The refund policy says purchase. It covers a light that isn't working properly. PlatinumLED decides case by case whether to send parts, troubleshoot by phone or email, or replace the unit with a new or refurbished one. Claims need photo or video evidence. Drops, misuse and opening the panel aren't covered. Only the original buyer from PlatinumLED or an authorized reseller is covered. Neither page says who pays shipping on a claim.

Returns60 days from delivery, for the panel only

60 days from delivery, for the panel only. It must arrive back at PlatinumLED by day 60, in its original packaging with all accessories. Elective returns carry a 20% restocking fee, which is $259.80 at list price. You pay return shipping, and original shipping isn't refunded. Stands and accessories such as remotes are final sale. You need a return authorization by email first. The refund policy says refunds are processed within 14 days of receipt or proof of return shipment.

More about this assessment

The PlatinumLED BIOMAX 900 is the largest red and near-infrared panel in the original BIOMAX line, with 300 LEDs. At $1,299 it comes with a door hook and hanging bracket, and there are no bulbs, filters or subscription to pay for. Stands cost $139 to $869 extra, and none of the listings names the 900. PlatinumLED publishes no irradiance figure for the 900, and the intensity chart on its page is for the newer BIOMAX PRO ULTRA. The FDA listing shows no 510(k), so it isn't FDA-cleared. The warranty runs three years, but elective returns cost a 20% restocking fee plus return shipping.

Strengths on paper

  • 300 LEDs in a 35.83 by 11.81 inch panel, the largest in the original BIOMAX line
  • Red and near-infrared LEDs in near-equal numbers: LightLab counted 144 red and 150 infrared
  • Seven listed wavelengths from 480 to 1060 nm
  • The lab's 490.9 W wall reading matches the 490 W PlatinumLED lists
  • Door hook, hanging bracket, eye protection and a simple remote come in the box
  • No bulbs, filters or subscription, and the LEDs are rated for 100,000 hours
  • Links physically and digitally with other BIOMAX panels if you add more later
  • Three-year warranty
  • Its FDA listing and Health Canada Class 2 licence both name the BIOMAX 900, and you can look them up
  • In stock for US orders, with 1 to 5 business days to ship

Limitations

  • PlatinumLED publishes no irradiance figure for the 900 at any distance
  • The chart and "3rd Party Verified" report under the 900 belong to the BIOMAX PRO ULTRA, a 432-LED panel that drew 772.6 W
  • The 900's own lab report measures total light in a sphere, not what reaches your skin
  • The lab's LED colors add up to 298, not the 300 it states
  • Elective returns cost a 20% restocking fee, $259.80 at list price, plus return shipping on a 33 lb panel
  • No stand is included, none of the stand listings names the 900, and stand sales are final
  • The store says "FDA Class II Medical Device", but the FDA record is a listing as an infrared heating lamp, with no 510(k)
  • The page calls it "Full Body", but the same page's FAQ points you to a 2x or 4x light package for full-body coverage
  • The "zero EMF" claim comes from PlatinumLED's own test with an unnamed detector
  • No flicker claim or flicker test is published
  • Use advice conflicts: 10 to 20 minutes at 8 to 14 in on the product page, 10 to 15 minutes at 6 to 12 in in the FAQ
  • It can't link digitally with PlatinumLED's newer BIOMAX PRO panels
  • No user manual is linked from the product page, FAQ or help center
  • Warranty claims need photo or video proof, and a replacement may be refurbished

3-year planning total

$1,322.18

Every field has a value. This is an estimate, not a quote.

Energy component: $23.18

Purchase + installation + years × (annual consumables + annual other) + watts/1000 × hours/day × 365 × years × $/kWh. Annualized allowances, not an exact replacement schedule. Excludes taxes, shipping, finance and resale unless entered.
Replacement parts & cost assumptions

No scheduled consumable is listed. That does not mean zero maintenance or repair costs.

  • Purchase is the $1,299 list price on Oct 13, 2026. Tax is extra. The store description promises free US shipping, but the shipping page gives no US price.
  • Installation is $0 because the door hook and hanging bracket come in the box. A wall bracket costs $79 and stands $139 to $869, but no listing names the 900.
  • No bulbs, filters or subscription are listed, so yearly consumables and other costs are $0. The LEDs are rated for 100,000 hours. The estimate leaves out return shipping and any shipping on warranty claims.
  • Watts uses the 490 W PlatinumLED lists for Solo mode. LightLab measured 490.9 W. Remote mode is 380 W.
  • Hours per day is 0.24, which assumes one 20-minute session 5 times a week. That's the top of PlatinumLED's guidance for one area.
  • That works out to about 43 kWh a year. Using it on two or three areas a day, as PlatinumLED allows, multiplies that.

Evidence & sources.

Does red light therapy work? Our evidence review grades the research as Mixed. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • Manufacturer claimPrice, specs, box contents, use guidance, stand options, warranty, shipping and return terms all come from PlatinumLED.151619 Apart from the lab figures below, none of it was independently measured. The pages disagree on the wavelength list, session length, use distance and when the warranty starts. The store description promises free US shipping, but the shipping page gives no US price. No user manual is linked from the product page, FAQ or help center.
  • Independent testLightLab International Allentown tested the BIOMAX 900 for Platinum LED Holdings on Apr 11, 2025 (report LLIA002639-004A). It measured spectral radiant flux in a 2 m integrating sphere under IES LM-79-19, once a minute over 20 minutes. It counted 300 LEDs: 144 red, 150 infrared and 4 blue. At the wall it recorded 490.9 W at 119.7 V and 4.111 A, with a power factor of 0.998.7 PlatinumLED commissioned the test, and the report says the lab didn't select the sample. It reports cumulative radiant energy (350–1700 nm) over time, not irradiance at any distance, and gives no peak wavelengths. It doesn't cover EMF or flicker. Its color counts add up to 298, not 300. The page numbering is inconsistent (one page reads "2 of 6" in a 3-page report).
  • Manufacturer claimOn the BIOMAX product page, the intensity chart and lab-report link under the BIOMAX 900 lead to LightLab report LLIA002684-006. That report covers the "PlatinumLED BIOMAX PRO ULTRA (High Power Setting)". It's a 432-LED panel that drew 772.6 W and averaged 91.28 mW/cm² at 12 in. The 900's joules link also opens a PRO ULTRA file.18 Those figures describe a different, more powerful panel and shouldn't be read as the 900's output. The 900's own report is listed separately on PlatinumLED's certifications page.
  • Regulator recordopenFDA's registration and listing data show Platinum LED Holdings LLC (registration 3015619571, Heathrow, Florida) listing "BIOMAX 900" under product code ILY. ILY is "Lamp, Infrared, Therapeutic Heating", a Class 2 device under 21 CFR 890.5500. E.Shine Systems Limited in Shenzhen, listed as a contract manufacturer, lists "BIOMAX900" under the same code. Neither listing carries a 510(k) number.1013 A listing isn't FDA clearance or approval, and it isn't a finding that the panel works for any health use. The regulation defines an infrared lamp as a device that emits infrared energy for topical heating. It exempts the device from 510(k) review, subject to 21 CFR 890.9. PlatinumLED's establishment type is "Develop Specifications But Do Not Manufacture At This Facility". The nine 510(k) records openFDA returns for applicants named "Platinum" are for gloves, two patches and a sleep recorder from other companies. openFDA describes its data as unvalidated.
  • Regulator recordHealth Canada licence 115549, "PLATINUMLED THERAPY LIGHT", is a device-family licence held by Platinum LED Holdings LLC. The licence copy PlatinumLED posts lists the BIOMAX 900 with the 300, 450, 600 and BIOMAX PRO models as Device Class 2. Health Canada's database shows it first issued on Jun 8, 2026, with risk class 2 and no end date.1415 A Canadian device licence lets PlatinumLED sell the panel there. It isn't evidence of a health effect, and the licence states no intended use. The model list comes from PlatinumLED's posted copy.
  • Manufacturer claimPlatinumLED's certifications page links an ETL document for the "BIOMAX 600 & 900" and says ETL certification is issued by Intertek. It lists ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, IEC 60601-1-6 and IEC 60601-2-57 among the standards. It also links a CB scheme document for the 900 and 600, and CE, FCC and RoHS documents for "BIOMAX LIGHTS".6 The ETL and CB documents for the 600 and 900 are scanned images with no readable text, so their scope and model coverage weren't confirmed. No Intertek directory entry was checked. These are electrical safety and EMC standards, not tests of therapeutic output.
  • Manufacturer claimPlatinumLED lists "0.0 µT" EMF at 4 in for the 900 and says there's "no readable EMF at 4" or further" from BIOMAX units. Its June 2026 EMF article describes "a simple but transparent test using an EMF detector" that PlatinumLED filmed. It claims zero emissions at four to six inches.159 The detector isn't named, and the article gives no readings, distances or models tested. Neither LightLab report covers EMF. PlatinumLED makes no flicker claim on the product page, FAQ or certifications page, and no flicker test was found.
