The verdict

The BIOMAX 300 is PlatinumLED's smallest panel, with 100 LEDs for your face, a joint or one small area. A lab PlatinumLED hired measured its output from 6 to 24 inches, so you can work out a dose. The catch is returns: sending it back costs 20% of the price plus shipping.

The trade-off

Elective returns cost a 20% restocking fee plus shipping, and the tabletop stand is $119 extra.

About this price

Regular price of $659 on PlatinumLED's US BIOMAX page, with no sale shown. PlatinumLED's online store shows the same $659 for the BIOMAX 300, with no markdown, and lists the panel as available. That matches the $659 recorded on Oct 10, 2026. The page's "Save $150" banner is for the BIOMAX PRO line, not this panel. The price is before tax. The store description says "Free US Shipping", but the shipping page doesn't state a US shipping cost. The tabletop stand is $119 extra.

A GOOD FIT FOR

You want a small panel for one area at a time, with lab-measured output at the distances you'll use.

  • You want light on your face or one joint at a time and don't need full-body coverage
  • You want output measured by an outside lab at 6, 12, 18 and 24 in, the distances you'd actually use
  • You'll hang it over a door with the included kit, or don't mind $119 for the tabletop stand
  • You might add more BIOMAX panels later, since they link physically and digitally

THINK TWICE IF

  • You want to cover your back or whole body: PlatinumLED suggests the 450 for the back and the 600 or 900 for full-body sessions
  • You need an FDA-cleared device: it's listed with the FDA, not cleared
  • You want a free trial: elective returns cost 20% of the price plus return shipping
  • You own or plan to buy BIOMAX PRO panels, because the two lines can't be linked digitally
  • You want a published flicker test
What still needs checking
  • Who pays shipping on a warranty claim
  • US shipping cost, since the store says free and the shipping page gives no price
  • Fan noise
  • Whether the light flickers
  • Measured peak wavelengths, since the lab report gives band totals only
  • Whether Intertek's directory lists the BIOMAX 300 under the IEC 60601 standards PlatinumLED cites
  • Whether the warranty starts at purchase or delivery, since PlatinumLED's pages say both

InstallationThe box includes a door hook, a hanging bracket, a cable assembly and snap links…

The box includes a door hook, a hanging bracket, a cable assembly and snap links, so you can hang it over a door. The tabletop stand costs $119, fits only the 300 and 450, and is sold separately. A wall mount bracket is $79 and a mobile floor stand is $139. Stand sales are final. PlatinumLED lists a 1.6 A draw at 110 V and says its lights adapt to any household voltage, with a cord for your country.

WarrantyThree years

Three years. PlatinumLED's warranty page says it runs from the delivery date in one place and from the purchase date in another. The refund policy says purchase. It covers a light that isn't working properly. PlatinumLED decides case by case whether to send parts, troubleshoot by phone or email, or replace the unit with a new or refurbished one. Claims need photo or video evidence. Drops, misuse, opening the panel and damage from mis-inserted stand screws aren't covered. Only the original buyer from PlatinumLED or an authorized reseller is covered. Neither page says who pays shipping on a claim.

Returns60 days from delivery, for the panel only

60 days from delivery, for the panel only. It must reach PlatinumLED's returns center by day 60, in its original packaging with all accessories. Elective returns carry a 20% restocking fee, which is $131.80 at list price. The fee applies even though the store description calls this a "60-Day Trial". You pay return shipping, and original shipping isn't refunded. Stands and accessories such as remotes are final sale. You have to email support for a return authorization first. Refunds are processed within 14 days of receipt or proof of return shipment, whichever comes first.

More about this assessment

The BIOMAX 300 is the smallest panel in PlatinumLED's original BIOMAX line, with 100 LEDs. PlatinumLED pitches it for joints, the face and focused recovery. LightLab International tested it for PlatinumLED in 2025, at distances from 6 to 24 inches. At 12 inches it averaged 56.25 mW/cm². That range covers the distances PlatinumLED tells you to use. Its FDA listing is under the infrared heating lamp code with no 510(k), so it's listed, not cleared. Health Canada licenses it as a Class 2 device. The warranty runs three years. Returns within 60 days cost a 20% restocking fee plus return shipping. None of this shows a health or longevity effect.

Strengths on paper

  • An outside lab measured output at 6, 12, 18 and 24 in, so you can estimate the dose at the distance you use
  • At the lab's 12 in average, a 10-minute session delivers about 34 J/cm²
  • The lab's 174.8 W wall reading is close to the 180 W PlatinumLED lists
  • Red and near-infrared LEDs in near-equal numbers, across seven listed wavelengths from 480 to 1060 nm
  • Door hook, hanging bracket, goggles and a remote come in the box
  • Low running cost: about 16 kWh a year at five 20-minute sessions a week
  • Three-year warranty, with LEDs rated for 100,000 hours
  • Links physically and digitally with other BIOMAX panels if you add more later
  • The BIOMAX 300 is named in its FDA listing and on its Health Canada Class 2 licence

Limitations

  • Sized for the face, a joint or one small area, so your back or legs take several sessions
  • Elective returns cost a 20% restocking fee, $131.80 at list price, plus return shipping, despite the "60-Day Trial" label
  • The tabletop stand is $119 extra and can't be returned
  • Listed with the FDA as an infrared heating lamp with no 510(k), though PlatinumLED's certifications page is headed "FDA Class II Medical Device Certification"
  • The same site's footer calls PlatinumLED's products "low-risk, general wellness / fitness products"
  • PlatinumLED's "zero EMF" claim rests on its own filmed test with an unnamed detector
  • No flicker claim or flicker test is published
  • Light is uneven up close: at 6 in, the lab's highest reading was 3.41 times its lowest
  • Distance advice conflicts: 8 to 14 in on the product page, 6 to 12 in in the FAQ
  • It can't link digitally with PlatinumLED's newer BIOMAX PRO panels
  • The "3rd Party Verified" link under the 300's intensity chart points to a file named for the BIOMAX PRO NANO, not the 300
  • No user manual is linked from the product page, FAQ or help center
  • Warranty claims need photo or video proof, and a replacement may be refurbished

Purchase + installation + years × (annual consumables + annual other) + watts/1000 × hours/day × 365 × years × $/kWh. Annualized allowances, not an exact replacement schedule. Excludes taxes, shipping, finance and resale unless entered.
Replacement parts & cost assumptions

No scheduled consumable is listed. That does not mean zero maintenance or repair costs.

  • Purchase is the $659 list price on Oct 13, 2026. Tax is extra. The store description promises free US shipping, but the shipping page gives no US price.
  • Installation is $0 because the door hook and hanging bracket come in the box, and the panel draws 1.6 A at 110 V. If you want it on a table, the $119 tabletop stand brings the upfront cost to $778.
  • No bulbs, filters, app or subscription are listed, so yearly consumables and other costs are $0. That leaves out return shipping and any shipping on warranty claims.
  • Watts uses the 180 W on PlatinumLED's comparison table. LightLab measured 174.8 W.
  • Hours per day is 0.24, which assumes one area for 20 minutes, 5 times a week. That's the top of PlatinumLED's guidance.
  • That works out to about 16 kWh a year. Treating two or three areas a day, as PlatinumLED allows, multiplies it.

  • Manufacturer claimPrice, specs, box contents, use guidance, warranty, shipping and return terms all come from PlatinumLED.151415 Apart from the lab figures below, none of it was independently measured. The pages disagree on the wavelength list (six or seven), on use distance (8 to 14 in or 6 to 12 in) and on when the warranty starts. The store description says "Free US Shipping", but the shipping page gives no US price. No user manual is linked from the product page, FAQ or help center.
  • Independent testLightLab International Allentown tested the BIOMAX 300 for Platinum LED Holdings in 2025 (report LLIA002684-001). It used Gigahertz-Optik BTS2048 spectral irradiance meters over a 7 by 7 grid. Average irradiance (350–1700 nm) was 71.79 mW/cm² at 6 in, 56.25 at 12 in, 43.89 at 18 in and 35.30 at 24 in. Center readings were 90.41, 64.81, 50.22 and 40.08. The panel drew 174.8 W at 120 V.7 PlatinumLED commissioned the test, and the report says the lab didn't select the sample. It also says some data may not be covered by the lab's NVLAP accreditation, and that it can't be used to claim certification. It reports output by band, not peak wavelengths. It doesn't cover EMF or flicker. The dates 06/11/2025 and 07/09/2025 appear without clear labels.
  • Regulator recordopenFDA's registration and listing data show Platinum LED Holdings LLC (registration 3015619571, Heathrow, Florida) listing "BIOMAX 300" under product code ILY, "Lamp, Infrared, Therapeutic Heating". That's a Class 2 device under 21 CFR 890.5500. E.Shine Systems Limited in Shenzhen, listed as a contract manufacturer, lists "BIOMAX300" under the same code. Neither listing carries a 510(k) number.91116 A listing isn't FDA clearance or approval, and it isn't a finding that the panel works for any health use. The regulation defines an infrared lamp as a device that emits infrared energy for topical heating. It exempts the device from 510(k) review, subject to 21 CFR 890.9. PlatinumLED's establishment type is "Develop Specifications But Do Not Manufacture At This Facility". None of the nine 510(k) records in openFDA with "Platinum" in the applicant name belongs to PlatinumLED. The ones checked were for gloves, a vascular access patch and a sleep recorder from other companies. openFDA describes its data as unvalidated.
  • Regulator recordHealth Canada licence 115549, "PLATINUMLED THERAPY LIGHT", is a device-family licence held by Platinum LED Holdings LLC. The licence copy PlatinumLED posts lists the BIOMAX 300 alongside the 450, 600, 900 and BIOMAX PRO models as Device Class 2. Health Canada's database shows the licence first issued on Jun 8, 2026, with risk class 2 and no end date.1213 A Canadian device licence is permission to sell the panel there. It isn't evidence of a health effect, and the licence states no intended use. The model list comes from PlatinumLED's posted copy.
  • Manufacturer claimPlatinumLED says its ETL certification is issued by Intertek. Its certifications page lists ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, IEC 60601-1-6 and IEC 60601-2-57 among the ETL standards. It posts ETL and CB documents labeled for the BIOMAX 300 and 450, plus CE, FCC and RoHS documents for the BIOMAX series.6 The page doesn't say in its text which models the ETL certification covers. The ETL and CB documents for the 300 are scanned images with no readable text, so their scope wasn't confirmed. No Intertek directory entry was confirmed either. These are electrical safety and EMC standards, not tests of therapeutic output.
  • Manufacturer claimPlatinumLED's comparison table lists EMF as 0.0 µT at 4 in. Its FAQ says there's "no readable EMF at 4" or further" from BIOMAX units. Its EMF article describes "a simple but transparent test using an EMF detector" that PlatinumLED filmed, and claims zero emissions at four to six inches.158 The detector isn't named, and no readings or method are given. The LightLab report doesn't cover EMF. PlatinumLED makes no flicker claim on the product page, FAQ or certifications page, and no flicker test was found.
