MEDIUM-ROOM PURIFIER COMPARISON

Blueair 311i Max vs Coway Mighty vs Levoit Vital 200S-P vs Winix 5510 for a medium room

All four are plug-in air purifiers for a bedroom, office or living room of roughly 360 to 440 ft². Each costs about $190 to $240 today. Every maker sizes rooms at 4.8 air changes an hour, so their room figures line up. The Winix column covers the 5510, the closest model Winix sells now that the 5500-2 is discontinued.

The bottom line

For most rooms up to about 440 ft², get the Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max. It has the highest smoke CADR here, 283 cfm, and the lowest power rating. To spend less, get the Levoit Vital 200S-P at $199.99. Pick the Coway Mighty for plain buttons, no app and one $59.79 filter set a year.

The four purifiers side by side

The Blueair is rated at 32 W, and it’s the only one of the four whose CADR shows up in an Energy Star listing17. The catch is filters at about $60 to $90 a year12. The Levoit’s $49.99 filter can last a year, but Levoit publishes only one CADR figure151718.

The Winix 5510 matches the Levoit’s price only while its sale lasts2527. The Coway’s CADR figures are the lowest of the four9. All the figures below are the makers’ own.

Prices are US prices on each maker’s store, before tax, checked on October 13, 2026. The Winix prices are sale prices, marked below. The three-year cost adds three years of filters to the purchase price. It leaves out electricity, because no maker says which speed its power figure applies to. Where a cell says a figure isn’t published, it wasn’t on the maker’s pages.

Which one should you buy?

All four suit a single room of 360 to 440 ft². The choice comes down to how much air you want moved, what you’ll pay each year and how you like to control it. These are picks for different needs, not a ranking.

  • The most clean air for a room up to 439 ft²: Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max. Blueair rates it at 283 cfm for smoke, and Energy Star lists the same figures17. It has the lowest power rating of the four, 32 W, and runs from 23 dB on low1. At 7.8 lb with air drawn in from all sides, it’s the easiest to move and place1. The catch: filters cost $59.99 to $89.98 a year, and the three-year warranty depends on registering within 60 days125.
  • The lowest cost with app control: Levoit Vital 200S-P. It’s $199.99, and the manual says to change its $49.99 filter every 12 months1618. That’s $349.96 over three years before electricity. The 2-year warranty needs no registration, and the manual mentions no ionizer1719. The catch: Levoit gives one 250 CFM figure without naming the pollutant15. Its filter page also says the filter may last only 6 months, which doubles the yearly cost18.
  • Separate smoke, dust and pollen ratings near $200: Winix 5510. Winix rates it at 253 cfm for smoke, for a 392 ft² room25. One $49.99 Filter Q set covers a year27. The catch: both prices are sales. At the regular $259.99 and $79.99, three years comes to $499.962527. PlasmaWave is built in, though it switches off2526.
  • Plain buttons, no app and a cheap yearly filter set: Coway Airmega Mighty. One $59.79 set covers a year of HEPA and carbon filters1112. The motor and electronics are covered for 3 years, and the ionizer has its own off button1013. The catch: its CADR figures, 233 to 246, are the lowest here, and so is its 361 ft² room rating9. It costs the most today, at $239.999. Its 77 W power rating is also the highest of the four9.

What the room ratings mean

All four makers size rooms at 4.8 air changes an hour, which means a room’s worth of air goes through the filter every 12.5 minutes191525. That makes their room figures comparable. The Blueair is rated for 439 ft², the Winix for 392, the Levoit for 388 and the Coway for 361. The Blueair’s 283 cfm smoke CADR is about 21% more than the Coway’s 23319. Levoit’s 250 CFM can’t be placed exactly, because Levoit doesn’t say which pollutant it refers to15.

The bigger numbers on each page assume far fewer air changes. Coway’s 874 and 1,748 ft² are the same airflow at 2 and 1 air changes an hour910. Levoit’s 1,862 ft² is one air change an hour15. Winix’s 941 and 1,882 ft² are 2 and 125. Blueair’s 1,054 and 2,107 ft² mean one change every 30 or 60 minutes1. Use the 4.8 figure when you size a bedroom or living room.

Blueair’s page isn’t consistent on room size. It also shows 387 and 465 ft² in places, and says box ratings may differ during a DOE rating update1. The 439 ft² figure is the one Energy Star lists7.

Filter and electricity costs

Over three years, purchase plus filters comes to $349.96 for the Levoit on the manual’s 12-month schedule1618. The Winix is also $349.96 at today’s sale prices, or $499.96 at regular prices2527. The Coway is $419.36 with one $59.79 set a year911. The Blueair is $409.96 if a filter lasts 9 months, or $499.93 at 612.

Blueair, Coway and Levoit also sell smoke, allergy or pet filters for the same housing. Blueair’s SmokeBlock costs $59.99 and its AllergenBlock $64.9934. Coway’s Allergen, Intense Smoke and Pet sets cost $64.991112. Levoit sells Pet Allergy, Toxin Absorber and Smoke Remover filters for $59.99 to $64.992224. Two of those Levoit listings don’t make clear whether you get one filter or two2224.

Each maker gives one power figure and doesn’t say which speed it applies to191526. The Blueair is rated at 32 W and the Levoit at 50 W. The Winix is rated at 65 W, and the Coway at 77 W. Energy Star lists the Blueair at 193 kWh a year but doesn’t say how many hours a day that assumes7. Electricity costs for the other three are unknown.

Ratings you can check, and ionizers

Only the Blueair’s CADR could be confirmed outside the maker’s own pages. Energy Star lists it at 283, 314 and 365 cfm with a 439 ft² room7. Winix says the 5510 is AHAM Verifide, and Levoit’s filter page makes the same claim1825. AHAM’s directory couldn’t be read to check either one33. Neither the Levoit nor the Winix 5510 is in Energy Star’s certified data2132. Coway’s page shows no AHAM mark9.

None of the four turned up in the part of CARB’s certified list that could be read831. The list cut off partway, so their status is unconfirmed rather than missing. Coway’s newer MightyC and Mighty2 are on it8. So is Winix’s 5530, which takes the same Filter Q as the 55102731.

The Coway has an ionizer, and the Winix has PlasmaWave1025. Each has its own off button1026. Both manuals say the units meet a 0.050 ppm ozone limit over 24 hours1026. Winix also gives an 8-hour average of 0.22 ppbv in a test chamber, without naming the lab25. Levoit’s manual mentions no ionizer17. Blueair doesn’t say whether its electrostatic stage ionizes, but Energy Star lists the 311i Max as fan and filter, with 2 ppb of ozone17.

Placement, warranty and returns

The Blueair is the lightest at 7.8 lb and draws air in from all sides, though Blueair gives no wall clearance1. The other three weigh 12.3 to 13.3 lb91725. Coway asks for 20 cm (about 8 in) from walls, and Winix for 12 to 18 in1026. Levoit wants 15 in of open space in front17. So the Coway, Levoit and Winix need more floor space than their footprints suggest.

Levoit gives 2 years with no registration19. Winix also gives 2 years, but not for units bought from independent marketplace sellers, and a non-Winix filter voids it28. Coway covers the motor and electronics for 3 years and other parts for 1, and excludes office use1013. Blueair gives 1 year, or 3 if you register within 60 days and change filters on its schedule5.

All four take returns for 30 days on direct orders. Blueair and Levoit send a prepaid label620. Coway and Winix have you pay return shipping, though Coway’s product page says “30 days free return”91428.

If you own a working Winix 5500-2, there’s no need to replace it. Winix lists it as discontinued, and its store no longer sells it2829. Its Filter H set is still sold, at $54.99 on sale30.
