The verdict

The 311i Max is a light, quiet purifier for a bedroom or office up to 439 ft². Blueair rates it at 23 dB on low and 32 W, and its CADR figures match its Energy Star listing. The catch is filters at about $60 to $90 a year.

The trade-off

Filters run about $60 to $90 a year, and the three-year warranty depends on registering within 60 days.

About this price

List price on Blueair's US page for the purifier alone. No sale price or crossed-out regular price was shown. Blueair's online store marked it available on Oct 13, 2026. The filter-subscription option costs the same $229.99 upfront. Its box holds one Particle + Carbon filter and a Stockholm Fog pre-filter. The purifier-only option doesn't spell out its box contents. A GOOD FIT FOR

A bedroom or office up to 439 ft² where you want low noise, app control and optional smoke or allergen filters.

  • A bedroom, home office or living room up to about 440 ft²
  • You want CADR figures you can check against an Energy Star listing
  • You'd like app schedules, an auto mode and filter tracking without paying a subscription
  • You may want to switch to a smoke or allergen filter during wildfire or pollen season

THINK TWICE IF

  • An open-plan space or a whole floor; Blueair's larger room figures assume much slower air changes
  • You need a confirmed AHAM Verifide or CARB listing before buying
  • You need heavy-duty gas or odor removal; Blueair pitches the standard filter's carbon at light household odors
What still needs checking
  • Whether it's listed in AHAM's Verifide directory, which couldn't be read
  • Whether CARB has certified it; the part of CARB's list that loaded showed only a different Blueair model
  • Power draw on low and which speed the 32 W figure refers to
  • Noise at speeds 2 and 3
  • Whether HEPASilent's electrostatic stage uses an ionizer; Energy Star lists it as fan and filter
  • Which sellers Blueair counts as third-party resellers for the warranty
  • Wall clearance and other setup guidance from the manual

More about this assessment

The Blue Pure 311i Max is a $229.99 purifier with a washable fabric pre-filter and a Wi-Fi app. Blueair rates it at 283 cfm for smoke, enough for a 439 ft² room, and Energy Star lists the same figures. It's 23 dB on low, and its rated power is 32 W. Plan on about $60 to $90 a year for the standard $44.99 filter. The warranty is one year, or three if you register within 60 days. AHAM Verifide and CARB listings couldn't be confirmed.

Strengths on paper

  • Smoke CADR of 283 cfm, enough for a 439 ft² room at 4.8 air changes an hour
  • Energy Star lists the same CADR and room-size figures Blueair publishes
  • 23 dB on low, by Blueair's figure, which suits a bedroom
  • Low rated power of 32 W
  • Three filter options fit the same housing, so you can switch for smoke or allergy season
  • Light at 7.8 lb, with a 360° intake that lets it sit anywhere in the room
  • Wi-Fi app with schedules, auto mode and filter tracking, and no app fee listed
  • Warranty extends to three years if you register within 60 days

Limitations

  • Standard filters run about $60 to $90 a year, more with SmokeBlock or AllergenBlock
  • The warranty requires filter changes on Blueair's schedule, with proof of purchase
  • Base warranty is only one year; the three-year term depends on registering in time
  • Blueair's page gives three room sizes (387, 439 and 465 ft²)
  • Box ratings may differ from the website during a DOE rating update
  • The 1,054 and 2,107 ft² claims mean one air change every 30 or 60 minutes, far below 4.8 an hour
  • Blueair publishes only one power figure, so low-speed draw is unknown
  • Filters taken out of their wrap can't be returned
  • The 311i Max filter page's FAQ names the 311i+ Max, whose filters differ, so it's easy to order the wrong one

Replacement parts & cost assumptions

Recorded recurring parts and refills:

  • Blue Pure 311i Max Particle + Carbon filter: $44.99 every 6 months. The filter page lists a 6-month filter lifetime and says it can last up to 9 months depending on use. That's $89.98 a year at 6 months or $59.99 at 9. The app tracks filter life, and a light turns red when it's due. A subscription takes 25% off the first filter and 15% off later ones. Buy the 311i Max filter (SKU 110037), not the $49.99 filter for the 311i+ Max. Confusingly, the 311i Max filter page's FAQ names the 311i+.
  • Blue Pure 311i Max SmokeBlock filter (optional): $59.99. Swaps in for the standard filter if smoke is your main concern. Blueair says it removes up to 99.99% of wildfire smoke, and up to 99.9% elsewhere on its pages. Its page says it lasts up to 9 months depending on use, so it costs at least $80 a year.
  • Blue Pure 311i Max AllergenBlock filter (optional): $64.99 every 6 months. Swaps in for the standard filter and targets pollen, dust and pet dander. Its page says to replace it every 6 to 9 months, which works out to about $87 to $130 a year.
  • Blue Pure 311i Max fabric pre-filter: $10.99. Washable, so it isn't a scheduled cost. Replacements come in four colors. Blueair doesn't say how long one lasts.
  • Purchase is the $229.99 list price on blueair.com.
  • Filters use the standard $44.99 Particle + Carbon filter every 6 months, the shorter of Blueair's two figures: $89.98 a year. At 9 months it's $59.99 a year. SmokeBlock and AllergenBlock filters cost $15 and $20 more each.
  • Watts is Blueair's single 32 W figure. Blueair doesn't say which speed it applies to or how many hours a day to run it, so energy cost isn't estimated.
  • Energy Star lists annual energy use of 193 kWh, but the listing doesn't show how many hours a day that assumes.
  • No required fees. The app has no listed charge, and the filter subscription is optional and billed as filters ship.

Evidence & sources.

Do air purifiers work? Our evidence review grades the research as Strong. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • Manufacturer claimBlueair rates the 311i Max at 283 cfm for smoke, 314 for dust and 365 for pollen. It pairs that with a 439 ft² room at 4.8 air changes an hour.1 Blueair says the CADR and room-size values were updated for new DOE standards and that packaging may differ during the transition. The page names no test lab. Its title and meta description give 465 ft² and 387 ft².
  • CertificationEnergy Star lists Blueair model 3332111100 at 283 cfm for smoke, 314 for dust and 365 for pollen. It gives a 439 ft² room size.17 The listing's UPC, 689122023021, matches the barcode Blueair's online store lists for the 311i Max. Energy Star certified it on Mar 8, 2023 as a fan-and-filter purifier with Wi-Fi. It lists ozone emissions of 2 ppb and annual energy use of 193 kWh.
  • Manufacturer claimBlueair says the standard filter removes 99.97% of tiny airborne particles and neutralizes over 90% of the irritating properties of pollen and dust allergens. Its SmokeBlock figure is up to 99.99% of wildfire smoke.12 Blueair's own claims. The footnotes describe short lab runs. PM2.5 was tested for up to 90 minutes and allergens for 60 minutes on the filter media by ELISA. Smoke was tested for 60 minutes in a 30 m³ room. The smoke figure appears as 99.9% in other places on Blueair's pages, and no test report is linked. Removal in a lab chamber isn't the same as how fast the unit cleans your room, which is what CADR measures.
  • Regulator recordThe readable part of CARB's list of certified air cleaning devices showed one Blueair entry, the Blue Signature SP3i, and no 311i Max.6 The list runs roughly newest first, and the readable part only reached entries from November 2025. The 311i Max may be listed further down, so its CARB status is unconfirmed rather than missing.
