Compact purifier for rooms up to about 360 ft², with filters near $60 a year

The verdict

The Mighty is a compact purifier for a bedroom or living room up to 361 ft². One $59.79 filter set covers a year, and the ionizer switches off. The catch is how little Coway publishes: one 77 W power figure, a noise range and no independent listing that could be confirmed.

The trade-off

Coway publishes only one power figure and a noise range, and no independent listing for this model could be confirmed.

A GOOD FIT FOR

A bedroom or living room up to about 360 ft² where you want cheap yearly filters and simple controls.

  • A bedroom or living room up to about 360 ft²
  • You want low filter costs: about $60 a year for the standard set
  • You want the option to run it with the ionizer off
  • You want auto and Eco modes on simple on-unit controls
  • You may want a smoke, allergen or pet filter set for part of the year

THINK TWICE IF

  • An open-plan space or a whole floor; the 874 and 1,748 ft² figures assume 2 and 1 air changes an hour
  • An office or shop; the warranty excludes commercial and office use
  • You want app control or schedules; the features Coway lists are on-unit buttons and a 1, 4 or 8 hour timer
  • You want an AHAM Verifide, Energy Star or CARB listing for this exact model that you can check before buying
  • You're sensitive to fan noise on high; Coway's range tops out at 53 dB(A)
What still needs checking
  • Whether it's listed in AHAM's Verifide directory or Energy Star's certified product list; neither could be checked
  • Whether CARB certified the AP-1512HH; the readable part of CARB's list stopped at entries from November 2025
  • Power draw on low and Eco, and which speed the 77 W figure refers to
  • Noise at each fan speed
  • Standby power
  • Whether opened filters can be returned
  • What differs inside the Allergen, Intense Smoke and Pet filter sets

InstallationNo installation

No installation. It sits on the floor and plugs into a standard 120 V outlet. The manual asks for at least 20 cm (about 8 in) from walls and other objects. Leave 30 to 60 cm of open space above it. Keep it 2 m from a TV or other electronics, off sloped surfaces and out of direct sunlight. It's meant for indoor household use.

WarrantyCoway's manual covers the motor and electronic parts for 3 years…

Coway's manual covers the motor and electronic parts for 3 years from the original retail purchase. Internal and functional parts get 1 year. Coway's support list also puts the AP-1512HH under 3-year coverage. Claims need proof of purchase and a video of the problem. Filters aren't listed as covered. Problems caused by non-genuine filters, skipped filter changes, or commercial or office use are excluded.

ReturnsThe product page offers a 30-day money-back guarantee and "30 days free return"…

The product page offers a 30-day money-back guarantee and "30 days free return", with an asterisk pointing to the return policy. That policy gives you 30 days from the ship date to request a return. It also says you pay shipping, handling and processing costs unless Coway made the error. If parts are missing, Coway may charge a restocking fee of 15% of the price or the value of the missing parts, whichever is higher. Refunds go to the original payment method. The policy doesn't say whether opened filters can be returned.

More about this assessment

The Airmega Mighty is a 12.3 lb floor purifier for one room, with a HEPA filter and an ionizer you can switch off. Coway rates its smoke CADR at 233. That covers a 361 ft² room at 4.8 air changes an hour. It costs $239.99, and one $59.79 filter set covers a year. Coway gives only one power figure, 77 W, so low-speed and Eco draw are unknown. No AHAM, Energy Star or CARB listing for this exact model could be confirmed.

Strengths on paper

  • Smoke CADR of 233, enough for a 361 ft² room at 4.8 air changes an hour
  • One $59.79 filter set covers a year of HEPA and deodorization filters
  • The ionizer has its own on/off button
  • Eco mode stops the fan after 30 minutes of clean air and restarts it when the sensor picks up pollution
  • Auto mode runs off a dust sensor, with an air quality light and a filter-change indicator
  • The filter set comes in four versions, including smoke, allergen and pet options
  • 3 years of coverage on the motor and electronics
  • Free shipping to the 48 contiguous states and a 30-day money-back guarantee

Limitations

  • Coway gives only one power figure, 77 W, so low-speed and Eco draw are unknown
  • Noise is given only as a 24 to 53 dB(A) range, with no per-speed figures
  • Internal and functional parts are covered for just 1 year
  • Warranty claims need proof of purchase and a video, and problems from non-genuine filters or missed filter changes aren't covered
  • The product page says "30 days free return", but Coway's return policy has you pay return shipping unless Coway made the error
  • It needs about 8 in of clearance from walls, so it takes more floor space than its 9.6 in depth suggests
  • The newer MightyC (AP-1512HHC) and Mighty2 (AP-1512N) appear on CARB's list, but the AP-1512HH didn't in the part that could be read

Replacement parts & cost assumptions

Recorded recurring parts and refills:

  • Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH & 200M Filter Set, Fresh Starter: $59.79 every 12 months. One HEPA filter and two deodorization filters. The HEPA filter lasts about a year and each deodorization filter about 6 months, so one set covers a year. Subscribe & Save takes 10% off the first filter order and 15% off refills. The same set fits the Airmega 200M. Don't confuse it with the $69.99 set for the MightyS (AP-1512HHS).
  • Allergen, Intense Smoke or Pet filter set (optional): $64.99. Swaps in for the Fresh Starter set if allergens, heavy smoke or pet odor is your main concern. Coway describes each option in a sentence and doesn't give separate filter lives. At one set a year, it's $5.20 more than the standard set.
  • Pre-filter: cost not recorded. Washable, so it isn't a scheduled cost. The manual says to vacuum or rinse it every 2 to 4 weeks. No replacement price was found.
  • Purchase is the $239.99 list price on Coway's US store, with no sale shown.
  • Filters are one $59.79 Fresh Starter set a year. Each set holds a HEPA filter that lasts a year and two deodorization filters that last 6 months each. The Allergen, Intense Smoke and Pet sets cost $64.99. Three years of purchase and standard filters comes to $419.36 before electricity.
  • Watts is Coway's single 77 W figure. Coway doesn't say which speed it applies to or how many hours a day to run it. For scale, 77 W around the clock is about 675 kWh a year. Low-speed and Eco draw aren't published, so energy cost isn't estimated.
  • No required fees. Subscribe & Save for filters is optional.

Evidence & sources.

Do air purifiers work? Our evidence review grades the research as Strong. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • Manufacturer claimCoway rates the Mighty at 233 for smoke, 246 for dust and 240 for pollen, for a 361 ft² room at 4.8 air changes an hour.13 Coway's own figures. The page names no test lab and shows no AHAM Verifide mark, and the manual repeats only the smoke figure. The 361, 874 and 1,748 ft² figures are the same airflow at 4.8, 2 and 1 air changes an hour.
  • Manufacturer claimCoway says the HEPA filter can capture 99.97% of airborne allergens as small as 0.3 microns.45 No test report is linked. Filter efficiency isn't the same as how fast the unit cleans your room, which is what CADR measures.
  • Manufacturer claimCoway's manual says the unit meets a 24-hour ozone limit of 0.050 ppmv, and that the ionizer can be switched off.3 The manual also quotes Health Canada's 2010 guideline: 0.020 ppmv or less, averaged over 8 hours in a sealed room of about 30 m³. No test report or lab is named, and the manual doesn't mention CARB or UL 2998. If you'd rather avoid ionizer output, the button turns it off.
  • Regulator recordCARB's list of certified air cleaning devices shows the newer Airmega MightyC (AP-1512HHC) and Mighty2 (AP-1512N) as mechanical cleaners. The part that could be read didn't include the AP-1512HH.8 MightyC, listed as AP-1512HHC(WT) and AP-1512HHC(BG): EO G-25-347, dated Dec 12, 2025. Mighty2: EO G-26-042, dated Mar 6, 2026, with the same models also under G-26-043 and G-26-044. The page text cut off mid-list at entries dated Nov 13, 2025, and older entries couldn't be reached. The AP-1512HH may be listed further down, so its CARB status is unconfirmed rather than missing.
