The three purifiers side by side
The Blue Pure 511’s catch is three manual speeds, with no air sensor or auto mode1. The Core 300-P is $104.99 in black, with a 2-year warranty and no registration1319. Levoit gives one 143 CFM figure without naming the pollutant, though1314.
The Atem Desk costs about four times as much as either room purifier1813. It moves 18 cfm on its top default speed78. If your room is bigger than about 220 ft², look at the medium-room purifiers instead.
Prices are US list prices on each maker’s store, before tax, checked on October 13, 2026. None of the three was on sale. Levoit’s main Core 300-P listing shows $99.99 without naming a color, so the table uses the $104.99 Black listing1314. The three-year cost adds three years of filters to the purchase price and leaves out electricity. Where a cell says a figure isn’t published, it wasn’t on the maker’s pages.

Which one should you buy?
Start with whether you want the room cleaned or just the air in front of you. A room purifier works on everyone in the room. A desk purifier works on whoever sits in its stream. Between the two room purifiers, it comes down to room size and how much detail you want behind the airflow figure.
- A small bedroom or office, with the clearest figures: Blue Pure 511. It’s $99.99, and Blueair rates it at 122 cfm for smoke and 123 for dust and pollen1. That covers a 189 ft² room1. Filters cost $23.99 and last about 6 months, so about $48 a year12. It’s 7.9 in square and weighs 4.2 lb1. The catch: three manual speeds, no air sensor and no auto mode1. The second year of warranty depends on registering within 60 days14.
- A room up to about 220 ft², or a sleep mode and timer: Levoit Core 300-P. Levoit rates it at 143 CFM, enough for 222 ft² at 4.8 air changes an hour1314. It’s $104.99 in black13. Its $29.99 filter lasts 6 to 8 months, so filters run $44.99 to $59.98 a year15. The warranty runs 2 years with no registration19. The catch: Levoit gives one CADR figure without naming the pollutant, and one 56 W power figure1314. At 7.9 lb, it’s also nearly twice the 511’s weight113.
- Quiet filtered air at your desk or bedside: IQAir Atem Desk. IQAir rates speed 1 at 20 dB(A) sound power, and speed 3 draws 3.4 W78. It takes 100 to 240 V and comes with regional plugs, so it can travel78. The catch: it moves 18 cfm on its top default speed, and IQAir publishes no CADR78. It’s $399.99, and filters add $79.99 a year89. Over three years that’s $639.96 before electricity.
Do you need a room purifier or a desk purifier?
CADR measures how fast a purifier cleans a room. Blueair gives the 511 a smoke CADR of 122 cfm1. It rates that as enough for 189 ft² at 4.8 air changes an hour1. IQAir publishes airflow instead: 18 cfm at most on the default speeds, and 39 cfm on a custom setting78. Airflow isn’t the same as CADR, so the two numbers don’t line up directly.
Levoit gives the Core 300-P one 143 CFM figure and doesn’t say which pollutant it covers1314. At 4.8 air changes an hour, Levoit rates it for 222 ft²1314. Its bigger 1,066 ft² figure assumes just one air change an hour, a fifth of that rate1314. Without a smoke figure, you can’t line it up exactly against the 511’s 122 cfm.
IQAir says the Atem Desk covers up to 150 ft² but gives no air-change rate8. Even at 39 cfm, a 150 ft² room with 8 ft ceilings gets just under 2 air changes an hour78. IQAir says it sends purified air straight to your breathing zone8. It doesn’t say how much of that air reaches you at a given distance.
The noise figures aren’t directly comparable either. IQAir labels its figures as sound power, which isn’t the same as sound pressure78. Blueair’s spec table doesn’t say which one its decibels are1. Its page also disagrees with itself: 24 to 49 dB in the spec table and 22 to 44 dB in the FAQ1. Levoit gives the Core 300-P a 24 to 54.5 dB range with no figure for each speed13. Its filter page puts sleep mode at 26 dB or less15.
Filter and electricity costs
The 511’s filter costs $23.99, and Blueair suggests a new one about every 6 months12. That’s $47.98 a year, or $243.93 over three years with the purifier. The pre-filter is washable, and spares cost $6.9916. The filter fits only the 5112. The 511i Max takes its own $29.99 filter, so check the name before you order6.
The Core 300-P’s $29.99 filter lasts 6 to 8 months, by Levoit’s advice15. That’s $44.99 a year at 8 months or $59.98 at 6. With the purifier, three years come to $239.96 to $284.93. The filter includes an activated carbon stage for gases and odors15. Levoit also sells Pet Allergy and Toxin Absorber versions at $35.99 and a 4-stage Smoke Remover at $39.991618.
The Atem Desk’s $79.99 HyperHEPA filter lasts about a year at 10 hours a day on speed 3, by IQAir’s rating9. IQAir doesn’t give a filter life for longer days or higher speeds9. IQAir’s spec sheet lists it for PM2.5, and neither page names a carbon or gas stage79. So don’t count on it for smoke smell or cooking odors.
The Atem Desk draws very little power. At 3.4 W for 10 hours a day, it uses about 12.4 kWh a year79. Blueair gives the 511 one 16 W figure, and Levoit gives the Core 300-P one 56 W figure113. Neither says which speed its figure applies to, so their running costs are unknown.
Warranty, returns and listings
Blueair covers the 511 for one year, or two if you register within 60 days14. You need to change filters on Blueair’s schedule and keep proof of purchase4. Levoit covers the Core 300-P for 2 years with no registration19. Filters aren’t covered, and neither are units bought from unauthorized sellers19.
IQAir gives the Atem Desk one year, or three if you register within 90 days10. You also need IQAir’s filter subscription, or proof that you buy genuine IQAir filters every 12 to 15 months10.
All three take returns for 30 days on direct orders51120. Blueair sends a prepaid label but doesn’t refund what you paid for shipping5. Levoit counts the 30 days from delivery, wants the original packaging and sends a prepaid label once it approves the return20. IQAir charges 15% to restock an opened unit and bills you for the return label11.
The 511 and Atem Desk pages show no AHAM Verifide, Energy Star or CARB mark18. Levoit’s main Core 300-P listing shows CARB and Intertek logos but no executive order number14. None of the three turned up in the part of CARB’s certified list that could be read, but the list cut off partway312. Energy Star’s Levoit data doesn’t include the Core 300-P either21. So their status is unconfirmed rather than missing.
