The verdict

Chilipad 2.0 circulates distilled water from a bedside Dock through a Hydrolayer pad to cool or heat one side of the bed. Sleepme gives a range of 55°F to 115°F, and it suits one sleeper who wants a nightstand remote and no subscription. The catch is that the $1,699 kit covers only your half, and Sleepme doesn't publish power draw or noise level.

The trade-off

The $1,699 kit covers one side only, neither the Two Sleepers option nor the add-on Companion system showed a price, and power draw, noise and running costs are unpublished.

A GOOD FIT FOR

You want to cool or heat your half of a 10 to 16 inch mattress from a bedside remote, with no subscription and no need for Wi-Fi.

  • You want to cool or heat your own half of a 10 to 16 inch mattress
  • You want bed cooling and heating with no subscription and no reliance on Wi-Fi
  • A couple planning to start with one side and add a Companion system later

THINK TWICE IF

  • A couple who wants both sides controlled from day one at a known price, since Sleepme showed no price for the Two Sleepers option
  • A top-split mattress where both sides of the upper surface move independently
  • Anyone who needs published power draw, noise or certification data before buying
What still needs checking
  • Dock power draw and yearly electricity cost
  • Measured noise level, since Sleepme says only that the 2.0 Dock is quieter than earlier generations
  • Dock and Half Queen Hydrolayer dimensions and weight
  • System Cleaner price and replacement schedule
  • Price and terms of the extended warranty
  • Prices for the Two Sleepers option and the Companion system
  • Long-term durability and leak resistance of the Hydrolayer

MaterialsThe Hydrolayer is a water-filled membrane with ultra-thin internal channels. Sleepme says the core electronics are designed and assembled in the USA, and the soft goods are made by partners in Asia.

Before you buy

InstallationYou set it up yourself

You set it up yourself. Stretch the cover and anchor band over the mattress like a fitted sheet, then place the Hydrolayer inside and secure it with S-hooks. Connect the water hose and power cord, and add the included System Cleaner packet. Then fill the Dock with distilled water until the screen shows the Hydrolayer is full. It works on adjustable and split-adjustable bases. Sleepme doesn't recommend it for a top-split mattress if both sides need to raise and lower independently.

More about this assessment

Chilipad 2.0 is Sleepme's water-based system for cooling and heating a bed. A bedside Dock circulates distilled water through a Hydrolayer inside a machine-washable, waterproof cover. Sleepme gives a range of 55°F to 115°F. The $1,699 One Sleeper Half Queen kit covers one side of a 10 to 16 inch mattress, with no subscription and no need for Wi-Fi. Sleepme doesn't publish power draw, noise level or reservoir capacity, so running costs are unknown. It comes with a two-year limited warranty and a 30-night trial.

Strengths on paper

  • Both cools and heats, over a wide range Sleepme gives as 55°F to 115°F
  • No subscription fees, and core functions work offline
  • Comes with a physical nightstand remote, plus optional presence sensing that can start a sleep schedule
  • Machine-washable cover with built-in waterproof protection
  • Two-year limited warranty, plus a 30-night trial with free returns in the contiguous US

Limitations

  • The $1,699 Half Queen kit covers only one side of the bed
  • Needs distilled water refills, and Sleepme doesn't publish water or System Cleaner costs or schedules
  • Sleepme doesn't publish power draw, a decibel rating, reservoir capacity or pad dimensions
  • No trade-in for current Chilipad or Dock Pro owners

Incomplete: annual consumables, energy use. This is not the full ownership cost.

Energy component: Unknown

Purchase + installation + years × (annual consumables + annual other) + watts/1000 × hours/day × 365 × years × $/kWh. Annualized allowances, not an exact replacement schedule. Excludes taxes, shipping, finance and resale unless entered.
Replacement parts & cost assumptions

Recorded recurring parts and refills:

  • System Cleaner: cost not recorded. One included packet goes in at setup. Sleepme doesn't say whether it needs replacing, how often or what it costs.
  • Distilled water: cost not recorded. Used to fill and refill the Dock. Sleepme doesn't say whether any comes with it, how much the reservoir holds or how often it needs refilling.
  • Purchase is the $1,699 list price for the One Sleeper Half Queen kit, which cools or heats one side of the bed. For both sides you'd need the Two Sleepers option or a Companion system added later, and neither showed a price.
  • Installation is $0. The product page gives setup steps for owners and lists no installation service or fee.
  • Annual subscription is $0 because Sleepme says there are no subscription fees. It adds that premium features may be offered in the future, while core manual functions stay free.
  • Annual consumables are left unknown. The Dock needs distilled water refills, and setup uses one System Cleaner packet. Sleepme publishes no water volume, refill or cleaning schedule, or cleaner price.
  • Electricity cost is unknown because Sleepme doesn't publish the Dock's power draw.

Evidence & sources.

Do cooling mattress pads, sleep masks and sheets help you sleep? Our evidence review grades the research as Weak. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • Manufacturer claimSleepme says Chilipad 2.0 cools or heats the mattress between 55°F and 115°F. It also says the pump and firmware make it quieter than previous generations.1 These are Sleepme's own statements. It publishes no decibel figure, cooling-rate data or independent measurement.
  • Manufacturer claimThe product page lists no FDA clearance and no third-party safety or performance certification. It offers payment with HSA or FSA funds through Truemed, subject to eligibility. It also claims "No EMFs in Your Bed".1 HSA/FSA eligibility is a payment arrangement, not a regulatory clearance or evidence of a health effect. Sleepme gives no measurement data for the EMF claim. This review found no independent test or clinical study of Chilipad 2.0.
