Twice-yearly lab panel membership with clinician review

The verdict

Function bundles 160+ lab tests a year across two Quest visits, with clinician review, for $365 the first year. The catch: renewal is at the then-current price, extras cost more, and in New York and New Jersey the lab may bill you separately. Trials of general health checks haven't shown lower mortality.

The trade-off

It's nonrefundable after 48 hours or once a specimen is collected, the renewal price isn't stated, and imaging, add-on tests and home draws cost extra.

About this price

This is the first-year price on Function's pricing page, shown as "$1 /day" and "Charged annually at $365", before tax. Membership renews at the then-current price, and the page doesn't give a renewal amount. Function says the $365 first year includes full access to 160+ lab tests in every state except New York and New Jersey. The terms say some or all lab fees in those states aren't included in the subscription fee and may be billed to you directly by the lab. A footnote also mentions a "Function Day offer" that expired 10/8/2026, without saying what it changed. Add-on tests, imaging and home draws aren't included. The FAQ lists the Annual MRI at $999 for members.

A GOOD FIT FOR

  • What the expired "Function Day offer" changed

Before you buy

InstallationNo installation

No installation. Function says blood is drawn at one of 2,000+ Quest locations across 48 states. In select areas, a licensed specialist can come to your home or office instead. The How it works page lists this home draw among its advanced add-on tests, with no price shown.

Under the terms of service, you can cancel for a full refund within 48 hours of your first purchase. That only applies before any specimen is collected or lab testing is done. After that, the membership and renewals are nonrefundable, and the FAQ says Function doesn't refund prior payments. Cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the billing cycle. You can't pause a membership, though the FAQ says you can cancel and rejoin at any time.

More about this assessment

Function Membership is an annual lab-testing membership that costs $365 for the first year. Function says it covers 160+ lab tests a year across two Quest visits, with clinicians reviewing every result. It renews at the then-current price, which Function doesn't state. Imaging, add-on tests and home draws cost extra, and the FAQ lists the Annual MRI at $999 for members. In New York and New Jersey, the lab may bill you directly for some fees. Once 48 hours pass or a specimen is collected, it's nonrefundable.

Strengths on paper

  • First results typically start arriving within 48 hours, per the FAQ
  • Listed as HSA/FSA eligible, with an itemized receipt

Limitations

  • Renews at the then-current price, which Function doesn't state
  • Nonrefundable once 48 hours pass or a specimen is collected

Energy component: $0.00

Purchase + installation + years × (annual consumables + annual other) + watts/1000 × hours/day × 365 × years × $/kWh. Annualized allowances, not an exact replacement schedule. Excludes taxes, shipping, finance and resale unless entered.
Replacement parts & cost assumptions

No scheduled consumable is listed. That does not mean zero maintenance or repair costs.

  • There's no hardware, so the $365 yearly fee counts as a recurring membership cost and the upfront purchase is $0.
  • The three-year figure assumes you renew at $365 a year. Function only states $365 for the first year and says membership renews at the then-current price. Years two and three may cost more.
  • Add-on tests, MRI or CT imaging and home draws are optional extras, so they're left out. The FAQ lists the Annual MRI at $999 for members. The pages checked show no price for the other extras.
  • In New York and New Jersey, the terms say some or all lab fees aren't included in the subscription fee. The lab may bill you for them directly, and Function doesn't say how much they are.

Evidence & sources.

Are longevity blood tests and biological-age clocks worth it? Our evidence review grades the research as Not supported. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • Manufacturer claimFunction describes itself as a healthcare technology company, not a laboratory or medical provider. It says independent third parties provide the lab and medical services, and that it doesn't offer medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.125 Test counts, clinician review and turnaround are Function's own statements. The pages checked name Quest as the lab partner and say the labs "meet the highest clinical standards". They don't state CLIA or CAP accreditation.
  • Published studyA Cochrane review of randomized trials found that general health checks in adults had little or no effect on total mortality (RR 1.00, 95% CI 0.97 to 1.03; 11 trials, 233,298 participants; high certainty). They also had little or no effect on cancer mortality (RR 1.01, 0.92 to 1.12; 8 trials; high certainty). Their effect on cardiovascular mortality was probably little or none (RR 1.05, 0.94 to 1.16; 9 trials; moderate certainty).6 The authors concluded that general health checks are unlikely to be beneficial. These trials tested health checks in general, not Function's panel, so they don't measure this membership directly. No outcome trial of the membership itself was found.
