What earns a place
The guide covers saunas for the home, sold to US buyers. Each pick names the need it serves, its trade-off and an alternative. Picks are for different needs, not a ranking. When a maker leaves out a key detail, such as a blanket’s wattage or a cabin’s price, the review says so rather than guess.
The infrared cabins come from Sunlighten (Signature I, Amplify II, Amplify III and Amplify RED III) and Clearlight (Sanctuary 1 and Sanctuary 2). The rest are Health Mate’s Enrich 2, Sun Home’s Equinox 2-Person and Luminar 2, and HigherDOSE’s Full Spectrum Infrared Sauna. The Luminar 2 is the only infrared cabin here built for year-round outdoor use1. The traditional saunas are Almost Heaven’s Salem, Grandview and Timberline, each with a Harvia heater and sauna stones24. The blankets come from HigherDOSE and MiHIGH.
When checked on October 13, 2026, the cheapest was the MiHIGH blanket at $179 on sale5. The most expensive was the Timberline at $17,8034. Clearlight sells both Sanctuary cabins by quote only, with no price on the page67.
Blanket, infrared cabin or traditional sauna
Start with the kind of heat, because it decides the space, the wiring and the budget. A blanket is the smallest commitment, and you lie inside it. HigherDOSE’s blanket needs no dedicated room, and MiHIGH’s plugs into a wall outlet89. HigherDOSE says its blanket heats up to 175°F8. MiHIGH gives a range of 25 to 75°C, about 77 to 167°F9.
An infrared cabin is a small wooden room you sit in, for one to three people in this lineup1011. Where a maker lists a top temperature, it’s 165 to 176°F121347. Most of the indoor cabins run on 120 V101415. Most also arrive as wall panels you put together yourself101228.
A traditional sauna heats a bed of stones with an electric heater. Almost Heaven’s three use Harvia heaters, from 6 kW in the Salem to 9 kW in the Timberline24. Almost Heaven says the Salem reaches up to 194°F in 45 to 60 minutes2. Each heater runs on 240 V and must be wired by a licensed electrician21618.
When a blanket is enough
A blanket makes sense if you want heat for one person, have no room for a cabin and can’t add a circuit. The HigherDOSE blanket was $699, against $4,999 for the cheapest cabin with a published price, the Signature I on sale1920. HigherDOSE also takes returns for 120 days from delivery, even after use, if the blanket comes back in like-new condition21. Cabin return windows here are about 30 days, and several makers refuse an opened cabin2224.
The catch is what you give up. You lie inside a blanket rather than sit in a heated room. Neither blanket maker publishes power draw, and HigherDOSE shows no ETL or UL listing on its product page89. MiHIGH names only CE, and its refund policy takes back only unopened blankets, minus a 15% restocking fee525. Both MiHIGH colors were sold out on October 13, 20265.
A cabin is the better fit if you want to sit up or share sessions, and a traditional sauna gives the hottest room. You trade that for more money, a dedicated circuit for most models, freight delivery, assembly and costly returns. Our evidence review covers how far sauna study findings carry over to infrared cabins and blankets.
What we weigh for cabins
Seven questions decide the cabin picks. Each answer comes from the maker’s product page, online store, manual or policy, recorded with the date it was checked.
- The circuit. Health Mate’s Enrich 2 and Clearlight’s Sanctuary 1 plug into a standard 120 V, 15 A outlet614. Health Mate says no electrician is needed14. The Sanctuary 2 plugs into a 120 V, 20 A outlet7. The Signature I, Amplify II, Amplify III and Equinox need a dedicated 120 V, 20 A circuit10111526. The Amplify RED III and Luminar 2 need a dedicated 240 V, 20 A circuit127. HigherDOSE’s three-person cabin needs a dedicated 240 V, 15 A circuit with a NEMA 6-15 outlet47. Almost Heaven’s heaters need a 240 V circuit wired by a licensed electrician1618. The Salem takes 30 A, the Grandview 40/45 A and the Timberline a 50 A breaker2318.
- Headroom on the circuit. A plug-in cabin can run close to its outlet’s limit. The Enrich 2’s 1,780 W rating works out to about 14.8 A at 120 V, and the Sanctuary 1 is rated at 14.6 A614. The Sanctuary 2 is rated at 18.83 A on a 20 A outlet7. Health Mate’s manual warns against overloading the circuit with too many appliances28.
- Indoors or out. Sunlighten says its saunas aren’t meant to go outdoors, and Sun Home’s Equinox is for indoor use only122930. The Luminar 2 is built for outdoor use but needs a level, draining pad that supports at least 1,500 lb131. Almost Heaven’s saunas need a firm, level base that can carry the sauna and its users, over 1,000 lb1632.
- Size and the way in. Widths run from 37.8 in for the Signature I to 135 1/4 in for the Timberline’s Scala size410. Sunlighten says its panels fit through a standard 30 in doorway10. Freight usually stops at the curb, garage or driveway, so you move the boxes in yourself11033. The Amplify III weighs 642 lb, and the Luminar 2 weighs 970 lb assembled1131. HigherDOSE’s cabin weighs about 580 lb, and HigherDOSE doesn’t publish its outside size47. Almost Heaven doesn’t publish weights for its three24.
- Heat and heaters. We record the top temperature and heater layout each maker lists, in the maker’s own words. “Full spectrum” is each maker’s own label, and no review here includes an independent measurement of what a heater emits. Sun Home lists 165°F for the Equinox, and Clearlight’s manual gives 175°F for the Sanctuary 21213. HigherDOSE lists 176°F but doesn’t name its heater type or count47. Sunlighten’s product pages give no top temperature for the Amplify II or Amplify III1126.
- Warranty, part by part. Sunlighten covers the cabinet and heaters for 7 years at home, the controls for 3 and the glass door and audio for 129. A note on its warranty page says coverage is for replacement parts only, and labor isn’t covered29. Clearlight covers parts and shipping for life, and its Sanctuary manual sets labor at 7 years indoors1334. Health Mate’s lifetime coverage applies only to the heater core, harness and wiring, and warranty labor is on you28. On orders since March 2, 2026, Sun Home covers labor and shipping for the first 90 days23. Almost Heaven covers Harvia heating elements for just 1 year35. HigherDOSE promises 5 years on its cabin, but its warranty page has no sauna terms4748.
- What a return costs. Sunlighten, Sun Home, HigherDOSE and Almost Heaven accept only unopened cabins2124. Clearlight and Health Mate take back a like-new cabin within 30 business days, minus a restocking charge and shipping3637. The charge is 25% at Clearlight and 20% at Health Mate. At the Enrich 2’s $5,300 list price, that’s $1,0601437. HigherDOSE takes a 30% restocking fee on every cabin return, about $2,700 on the three-person model2147.
Why one sauna over another
A lower price, a smaller footprint, an ordinary outlet or clearer terms can justify a pick. None of those proves a sauna does more for your health. There are no scores or star ratings.
A finding for one model doesn’t carry over to another. Sunlighten’s Amplify II and Sun Home’s Equinox list the same outside size, the same 541 lb weight and the same 1,880 W rating1526. Their heater counts differ, though, and we don’t assume the two are built the same way1526. The same goes for a price, a certificate or a test result.
Each review names the build it prices. The Grandview’s $9,083 is the base build with an 8 kW heater and dial controls346. Other heaters raise it to $11,939 or $12,65346. The Timberline’s heater choices no longer include an 8 kW Spirit4. So its review covers the closest current build, the Scala size with a 9 kW Spirit, at $17,8034.
Where the facts come from
Every sauna review is built from the sources it cites: maker pages, online store listings, manuals and policies, plus certifier records and published studies where they apply. Prices are checked on the date shown.
What we don’t weigh
Health claims on product pages don’t move a sauna up or down. Sunlighten markets support for detoxification, cardiovascular conditioning and muscle recovery26. MiHIGH says you can burn up to 300 to 600 calories a session, with no study or method behind it5. Our evidence review covers what sauna studies show. A study of one kind of sauna isn’t carried over to another.
EMF figures without a method don’t count. Sun Home says the Equinox is under 0.5 mG but gives no test method, distance or report12. Clearlight’s FAQ says its heaters measure under 1 mG when tested directly on the heater, with no lab or report named38. HigherDOSE and MiHIGH make low-EMF claims for their blankets with no figure at all58. HigherDOSE’s cabin page does the same47.
A safety logo without a listing number is recorded as unconfirmed. Sunlighten says its saunas are ETL-certified but gives no listing number and doesn’t say which models are covered39. Clearlight’s site footer and Health Mate’s product page show Intertek and CE marks as images, with no listing number714. Almost Heaven’s heater manual mentions a UL listing with no file number17. Sun Home names no listing for the Equinox, and MiHIGH names only CE51215. HigherDOSE claims no ETL, UL or CSA listing for its cabin4749.
Red-light extras are judged on what’s published. On sale, the Amplify RED III cost $1,600 more than the same-size Amplify III, or $1,800 more at regular prices2740. Sunlighten gives no wavelength or output for its red-light heaters27. Health Mate’s near-infrared panel has no published wavelength or output either14. HSA/FSA checkout and financing are ways to pay, not evidence of a health effect or a discount1226.
How facts are checked
Every fact in a review cites the page it came from and the date it was checked. When a maker’s documents disagree, the review gives both. Health Mate’s product page rates the Enrich 2 at 1,780 W, while its info sheet says 1,810 W1441. Clearlight’s warranty page says registration is automatic at shipment, but the Sanctuary manual says to register within 30 days1334. An independent review of HigherDOSE’s three-person cabin lists a 150°F top temperature and carbon heaters, against 176°F on HigherDOSE’s page4750. Our review gives both and notes that the independent one may describe an earlier version.
Names and promises get checked against the fine print too. Almost Heaven sells the Grandview as a 4 to 6 person sauna, but its spec table says up to 83. MiHIGH’s product page promises a refund with no questions asked, while its refund policy takes back only unopened blankets525. A figure a maker doesn’t publish is recorded as not stated, never as zero.
Some linked documents couldn’t be opened, such as the spec sheets and manuals on Sunlighten’s support pages42. The reviews say so rather than fill the gap with a guess.
How prices are checked
Prices are US prices for the exact size and build, from the official product page or the maker’s online store. Every sauna price was checked on October 13, 2026, before tax and shipping. A sale is labeled as one. Sunlighten’s online store put the Amplify II at $5,999 against a $6,899 regular price43. Sun Home showed the Equinox at $6,099 against $6,79912.
Checkout discounts aren’t deducted. Sunlighten’s product pages showed a further $200 off at checkout for a sale ending October 14, so the reviews use the store price instead102643. A quote-only cabin gets no price at all. Clearlight’s Sanctuary 2 page showed a “Save $600” banner and financing from $146 a month, but no list price7. So neither Sanctuary review has a three-year total.
Shipping is noted, not added. Sunlighten, Clearlight and Sun Home advertised free shipping, and Health Mate offered free curbside delivery7101214. HigherDOSE’s site banner also promises free shipping, but its three-person cabin costs $999 plus tax for curbside freight47. Almost Heaven’s product pages say shipping is calculated at checkout, while its shipping policy says curbside delivery is included233. The Grandview ships by flatbed, with freight priced at checkout344.
The three-year estimate on each review adds the purchase, installation and three years of recurring costs. Electricity goes in at an editable $0.18 per kWh. A cost that isn’t published leaves the total incomplete rather than counting as zero. The ownership cost explainer shows the formula and the recurring costs for each sauna.
What we don’t do
These limits apply to every sauna review and pick.
- We don’t give scores, star ratings or a single overall winner.
- We don’t rank by detox, weight-loss or longevity claims, and we don’t give medical advice. Sunlighten warns that the magnets used to assemble its saunas can interfere with pacemakers45.
- We don’t count an unknown cost as zero, or carry one model’s figure or certificate over to another.
- We don’t present a sale price as a list price or deduct checkout discounts.
