The verdict

The Salem is a small red cedar barrel for two, with a 6 kW Harvia heater, stones and a Fenix touchscreen in the box. At $5,484 you get a traditional hot-rock sauna at a published price, with no quote. The catch is setup: an electrician must hard-wire a 240 V, 30 A circuit, and you build it yourself or pay from $1,400.

The trade-off

Electrician and base costs come on top, the benches are 39 1/4 in long, and opened kits can't be returned.

About this price

List price on Almost Heaven's product page on Oct 13, 2026, the same $5,484 seen on Oct 10, 2026. It isn't on sale: the regular price shown is the same, and the site's fall sale doesn't include the Salem. The site's sign-up discount isn't applied. Almost Heaven's online store shows one configuration, marked available. The price is before tax. The product page says shipping is calculated at checkout, but the shipping policy says curbside delivery is included.

A GOOD FIT FOR

Two people with a level outdoor spot and room in the panel for a 240 V, 30 A circuit.

  • Two people who want a traditional hot-rock sauna outdoors on a deck, slab or pavers
  • A home with panel space for a 240 V, 30 A circuit and an electrician lined up
  • You want a published price and one fixed configuration, with no quote
  • A small yard: the barrel takes up 78 × 47 in

THINK TWICE IF

  • You want to lie down, or seat more than two
  • You can't add a hard-wired 240 V circuit
  • You live in Alaska, Hawaii or outside the contiguous US, where the warranty doesn't apply
  • You may want to return it after opening the boxes
  • You want a roof cover in the box, since the rain jacket costs from $337
What still needs checking
  • Kit weight, pallet size and assembly time
  • Where the power unit goes on an outdoor barrel, since Harvia says it must not be outdoors
  • Whether the heater suits the room: Harvia rates it for 170 to 300 cu ft, and the interior is under 120 cu ft
  • How the controls fit together: Harvia's page for the SKU's heater part describes dials on the heater, not a separate control
  • Whether the Fenix control or the finished sauna carries a safety listing
  • How many elements the heater uses and how long they usually last
  • Whether delivery is free: the shipping policy says it's included, the product page says it's calculated at checkout
  • What the electrician and the base will cost

The practical details.

InstallationThe heater needs a hard-wired 240 V, 30 A circuit, and the LED light plugs into a 120 V…

The heater needs a hard-wired 240 V, 30 A circuit, and the LED light plugs into a 120 V, 15 A outlet. Almost Heaven's manual says a licensed electrician must do all electrical work. Harvia's KIP manual lists a 25.0 A draw at 240 V, #10/2 heater wire plus #14/2 control wire, and a standard 2-pole breaker. It says no GFI may be used. It also says the control panel and power unit must go in a dry place, not outdoors. You build the barrel on a firm, level base that holds over 1,000 lb, such as a deck or concrete slab. On bare ground, the cradles sit on pavers. Lifting takes two or more people. The manual's tool list is a cordless drill, rubber mallet, hammer, framing square, screwdrivers, utility knife, level and wrench. No assembly time is given. Almost Heaven's installation service starts at $1,400 for assembly and setup. The electrical connection is an add-on at extra cost. The kit ships within four weeks by freight to the curb, and you move it from there.

WarrantyAlmost Heaven gives a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects…

Almost Heaven gives a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on all components. It excludes normal weathering, wear and tear, improper use or assembly, and weather events. It doesn't transfer to a later owner and applies only to saunas in the contiguous US. Harvia heaters get 1 year on heating elements and 5 years on other components. Wiring mistakes, poor stone placement and corrosion from salt or hard water aren't covered, and neither is an electrician's time on a claim. Harvia's own KIP manual is narrower. It guarantees the heater for one year and covers elements only on first use. It also needs the registration form back within 15 days and installation by a certified electrician. A GFI breaker voids the warranty on the heater's internal parts. The Fenix control's warranty isn't stated.

ReturnsAlmost Heaven accepts unopened products within 30 days of receipt

Almost Heaven accepts unopened products within 30 days of receipt. The refund is the original amount minus the original and return shipping fees and a 25% restocking fee, paid after inspection. Returns start with a call to 888.355.3050. The policy doesn't cover cancelling an order.

More about this assessment

The Salem is Almost Heaven's two-person barrel sauna kit in rustic red cedar, with a tempered glass door and no window. It's sold in one configuration: a 6 kW Harvia KIP heater, stones and a Fenix touchscreen control. Almost Heaven says it reaches up to 194°F in 45 to 60 minutes. The benches are 39 1/4 in long, so you sit upright. A licensed electrician must hard-wire the heater to a 240 V, 30 A circuit, and the LED light plugs into a 120 V outlet. The sauna has a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, but heater elements get one year.

Strengths on paper

  • Heater, stones, Fenix touchscreen and LED light all come in the kit
  • Uses a Harvia heater, and Almost Heaven sells replacement 6.0 kW elements for $101
  • Wi-Fi remote start through the MyHarvia 2 app, once the door is closed
  • Hot enough for a traditional session: Almost Heaven says up to 194°F in 45 to 60 minutes
  • Published $5,484 price with no quote, and it ships within four weeks
  • A limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects

Limitations

  • Needs a licensed electrician for a hard-wired 240 V, 30 A heater circuit, with no GFI breaker
  • Benches are 39 1/4 in long, so you sit upright
  • No roof cover is included, so you'll want a shelter or the rain jacket, from $337
  • You'll check band tension every few months, and wood shrinkage may mean adding filler staves later
  • Heater elements are covered for 1 year, and an electrician's time on warranty claims isn't covered
  • Only unopened kits can be returned, minus a 25% restocking fee and shipping both ways
  • Delivery stops at the curb, and Almost Heaven doesn't list the weight you'll be moving

What it costs to own.

Adjust the assumptions for your use. Missing costs stay unknown.

PLAN YOUR OWNERSHIP COSTS

What will it cost to own?

Change the assumptions to fit your use. Leave an unknown cost blank. Add water, subscriptions, cleaning, shipping and taxes if they apply. Use average operating power, not the maximum rating.

3-year known subtotal

$5,484.00

Incomplete: installation, annual consumables, other annual costs, energy use. This is not the full ownership cost.

Energy component: Unknown

Purchase + installation + years × (annual consumables + annual other) + watts/1000 × hours/day × 365 × years × $/kWh. Annualized allowances, not an exact replacement schedule. Excludes taxes, shipping, finance and resale unless entered.
Replacement parts & cost assumptions

Recorded recurring parts and refills:

  • Replacement 6.0 kW KIP heating element: $101. Almost Heaven sells the 6.0 kW element for $101. It doesn't say how many come per order or how many the heater uses. Harvia calls elements consumable and gives no replacement interval.
  • Sauna stones: cost not recorded every 60 months. Harvia says the stones may need replacing after five years if they've crumbled or powdered. Almost Heaven sells 40 lb bags of standard stones from $135. The KIP manual doesn't say how many pounds the heater holds, so the refill cost is unknown.
  • Purchase is the $5,484 list price on Oct 13, 2026. The shipping policy says curbside delivery is included, but the product page says shipping is calculated at checkout.
  • Installation is unknown. A licensed electrician must run the hard-wired 240 V, 30 A heater circuit, and Almost Heaven doesn't price that work.
  • Almost Heaven's assembly service starts at $1,400, and the electrical connection costs extra. A level base that holds over 1,000 lb is also on you.
  • Annual consumables are unknown. A 6.0 kW element costs $101, but Harvia gives no replacement interval. Stones may need replacing after about five years, and the heater's stone load isn't stated.
  • 6,000 W is the heater's rating, not an average. At full power, the 45 to 60 minute heat-up alone uses about 4.5 to 6 kWh. Almost Heaven doesn't state typical daily use, so yearly energy isn't estimated.
  • No subscription is listed. The Fenix page mentions remote control "with the MyHarvia Control Upgrade" without saying whether it costs extra, so other annual costs stay unknown.

Evidence & sources.

Are saunas good for you? Our evidence review grades the research as Moderate. That grade is about the claim, not about this product.

  • Manufacturer claimDimensions, heater, electrical needs and materials come from Almost Heaven's product page, its barrel manual and Harvia's KIP manual134 From maker documents. None of these figures was measured independently.
  • Manufacturer claimHarvia's page for the heater part in the Salem's SKU (JH60W2401, KIP60W 6.0 kW 240 V) lists UL under certificates1481112 No file number is given, and UL's directory wasn't checked. A US retailer lists the black KIP60W with an ETL safety listing. Almost Heaven's pages and manuals name no listing for the sauna, the heater or the Fenix control.
  • Manufacturer claimAlmost Heaven makes no EMF claim for the Salem1 The product page gives no EMF figure or test, so there's nothing to verify. No independent EMF measurement of this model is cited.
  • Manufacturer claimBoth manuals set a 30-minute limit per session34 Almost Heaven's manual gives 160 to 185+°F as typical and says to ask a doctor about your limits. People with existing conditions shouldn't use it alone. These are safety precautions, not evidence of a health benefit.
