Choose ifA 1–3 bathroom city-water home with room for a 52 in tall tank on the main line, where you plan to stay and want chlorine and chloramine treated at every tap.A city-water home on chlorine, not chloramine, with 1-inch plumbing and an indoor main-line spot, that wants chlorine, taste, odor and sediment reduced at every tap at high flow.
Main trade-offSpringWell names no NSF, WQA or IAPMO certification for any contaminant claim, an installed system can't be returned unless it's defective, and the lifetime warranty ends if you move it.No NSF/ANSI standard is named for its contaminant claims, the warranty is one year with registration, and a $125.99 cartridge set is listed for replacement every 6–12 months.
Key specifications
  • Service flow and connection: 9 GPM; 1-inch connection
  • Home size: 1–3 bathrooms
  • Filtration: Up-flow tank of KDF (copper-zinc) and catalytic carbon, then a 5-micron sediment cartridge
  • Media life: 1,000,000 gallons, or 10 years according to the product page and 6 years according to the installation manual
  • Sediment cartridge change: Every 6–9 months, though SpringWell's 10-inch replacement listing says the filter lasts up to 6 months
  • Operating limits: 25–80 PSI; 36–120°F; pH range not given
  • Certification: None named on the product page or in the manual; an NSF listings search for SpringWell returned no products
  • Filtration: 3 stages: a 5-micron polypropylene sediment cartridge (FP25B), then two coconut-shell carbon block cartridges (FC25B)
  • Flow rate and connection: Up to 15 GPM, with 1 in female NPT inlet and outlet
  • Cartridge size and rated life: 20 in × 4.5 in. FP25B and FC25B are each rated for up to 100,000 gallons or 12 months. iSpring lists the F3WGB32B pack's replacement cycle as every 6–12 months. Replace sooner if output pressure drops significantly
  • Operating limits: 25–80 psi; 40–100°F; pH 6–9; not for hot water
  • Not reduced or removed, per iSpring: TDS, hardness, fluoride, bacteria and viruses. For iron, lead, manganese and other metals, iSpring points to its WGB32BM, WGB32B-PB and WGB32B-KS models
  • Certification: No NSF/ANSI standard is named for the system or cartridges. The product page says the carbon blocks were tested by a third party to meet NSF/ANSI standards
  • Power: No electrical connection listed

DimensionsThe carbon tank is 9 in wide and 48 in tall, or 52 in with the head. The 9 in width is for the tank alone. SpringWell doesn't give the size of the separate sediment housing, the overall installed footprint or the system weight. The product page lists "Product Dimensions" of 24.5 in L × 8.0 in W × 28.0 in H and a "Product Weight" of 60.0 lb. It doesn't say whether these figures are for the assembled unit or the shipping box, or which dimension runs along the wall.
InstallationIt must go on a main water supply line, following all applicable plumbing codes. The manual highly recommends a 3-valve bypass around the system, which isn't included. It says a licensed plumber can install one using standard tee fittings and ball valves. The product page also adds a $78.74 bypass valve to the cart by default, which you can remove at checkout. Before installation, the carbon media must soak in water for at least 48 hours. Then you flush the tank until the water runs clear. SpringWell says not to install it on well water without first speaking to customer service. It also says not to use it where water is microbiologically unsafe. SpringWell lists no electrical connection. It goes on the main water line where it enters the house, before the line branches to the water heater or other plumbing. The inlet and outlet ports are 1-inch female NPT. iSpring says to install it indoors in a well-ventilated area, protected from wind, rain, direct sunlight, heat and freezing. It advises against installing it outdoors. An outdoor install, it says, would need insulation against frost and sun, and waterproofing for the unit and pipes. It also advises against filtering hot water, which it says can damage the carbon blocks. The operating range is 40–100°F, and feed pressure must be 25–80 psi. Water flows right to left. For left-to-right plumbing, you flip the head. iSpring describes installation as DIY for someone with some plumbing knowledge and supplies a manual and video guide. No storage tank is required, and no electrical connection is listed. The warranty doesn't cover installation cost.
MaterialsThe up-flow tank holds a bed of KDF copper-zinc alloy and catalytic carbon. The 2020 installation manual describes coconut catalytic carbon and doesn't mention KDF. After the tank, water passes through a 5-micron sediment cartridge in a separate housing with mount. The kit includes the carbon filter tank, tank head, sediment housing and filter, MNPT fittings, spanner wrench, gasket and lube, and a hose bib. SpringWell doesn't say what the tank and housing are made of.Stage 1 is a 5-micron polypropylene (PP) sediment cartridge (FP25B). Stages 2 and 3 are FC25B carbon blocks made from coconut-shell carbon, which the replacement pack calls CTO coconut-shell carbon blocks. Each cartridge is individually wrapped. iSpring doesn't state the housing, head or bracket materials or give a full list of box contents.
WarrantySpringWell gives a lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship on covered items, starting on delivery. It covers the registered owner who owns or lives in the home where the system was first installed. The warranty is void if the system is removed from its original location. The covered-parts clause names fittings, "FutureSoft media", tanks, housings, bypass, valves and in/out heads. It doesn't name the CF1's KDF or carbon media. Exclusions include freezing, fire, misuse and neglect, such as not replacing filters or media on time. Plumber fees aren't covered, and liability is capped at the product's cost. On a private well, the water must be free of hydrogen sulfide and oils, with copper at or below 1.30 mg/L. SpringWell says iron or manganese will oxidize the media. A separate performance guarantee says SpringWell's carbon can reduce chlorine and chloramine below minimum detection levels for 6 years or 1 million gallons. The limited warranty runs one year from the date of purchase and covers defects in materials and workmanship. It applies to end users who bought from an authorized iSpring dealer or reseller and who register at ispringfilter.com. A repaired or replaced product is covered for the rest of the original term or 6 months, whichever is longer. Defects from accidents or from improper installation, maintenance, repair or use are excluded. So is the cost of installing or reinstalling the system. iSpring says it bears the cost of defective products sent back. Customers in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and outside the US pay shipping costs, though. The product page also shows a "Lifetime Tech Support" badge and says registering online activates an "extended warranty". It links to an extended-warranty collection, but the pages reviewed don't give that warranty's length or terms.
ReturnsYou can return unused, uninstalled SpringWell items in undamaged original packaging within 6 months of purchase. You pay return shipping, and original shipping isn't refunded. Approved non-defective returns carry a 10% restocking fee. It can be up to 25% for refused deliveries or returns that need extra handling. Installed systems can't be returned unless SpringWell finds them defective. The product page advertises a "6-month money-back guarantee". The policy page instead describes a 6-month Performance Promise focused on service resolution rather than full refunds for installed systems. Under the Performance Promise, SpringWell pays for defective product returns and refunds them in full, excluding installation-related costs. Report defective or faulty items to customer support within 30 days of delivery to request an exchange. Claims for damaged or lost small-package shipments are due within 10 days of delivery. Freight damage must be noted on the delivery receipt.Within 30 calendar days of purchase, unopened, unused items in original packaging get a full refund. Open-box items returned in that window get a refund minus a 15% restocking fee. To qualify, they must be unused, undamaged, not defective, complete with all parts and in good working order. After 30 days, refunds fall on a sliding scale. Unopened items get 85% back at 1–3 months, 65% at 3–6 months and 50% at 6–12 months. Open-box items get 70% at 1–3 months and 50% at 3–6 months. Unopened items after 12 months and open-box items after 6 months aren't eligible. You pay return shipping unless the product is defective. Defective products are fully refunded after inspection, and iSpring provides a prepaid label on request. Customers in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and outside the US pay shipping. Every return is inspected and approved before a refund is issued.
Unresolved questions
  • Whether to replace the media at 6 or 10 years, since the product page and manual disagree
  • System weight, sediment-housing size, overall installed footprint and tank material
  • Replacement media price
  • Plumber cost for main-line installation and a 3-valve bypass
  • How much pressure the CF1 loses at full flow, since SpringWell claims no pressure drop but publishes no figure
  • Independent lab data for the PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, heavy-metal and pesticide claims
  • Which sediment cartridge size the current CF1 ships with (the 10-inch replacement listing names the CF1 as compatible, but says systems bought before April 2019 most likely need the 20-inch filter)
  • Operating pH range
  • Whether the lifetime warranty covers the KDF and carbon media, since the covered-parts clause names "FutureSoft media" instead
  • Whether the listed dimensions and 60 lb weight are for the assembled unit or the shipping box
  • How much wall width the system needs
  • Whether it reduces chloramine (the page mentions only chlorine)
  • How much pressure it loses at full flow, since iSpring says it "should not" lower pressure but publishes no figure
  • Which NSF/ANSI standard, lab and results the "tested by a third-party" statements refer to
  • Reduction figures for THMs, VOCs, herbicides and pesticides
  • Length and terms of the extended warranty that registration is said to activate
  • Prices of single FP25B and FC25B cartridges
  • Plumber cost for main-line installation
  • Full box contents, such as whether a mounting bracket, housing wrench and fittings are included
